In my infinite newbie wisdom, I decided to take my '73 2.0 out for a slow spin around the block after replacing the master cylinder but BEFORE replacing the pedal board. Still needed to make some final brake plunger fine adjustments don't ya know. Well it seemed like a good idea at the time... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

As a result I got to experience the 'fun' of testing the brakes AND dealing with a stuck wide open throttle at the same time. Believe me, it's not as much fun as it sounds. Good thing the brakes passed the QA check... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Anyhow the engine seems fine as I got the ignition off quickly but now my accelerator cable has a slight grinding feel to it when I operate the pedal. My question is what signs of damage should I check for in the throttle system as a result of the over-travel condition?

Bent bracket on the plenum/engine. Bent lever on the throttle body, broken throttle tube in the tunnel ( probably not) and replace the cable and check the return spring.

Without the brake pedal stop, possibly causing a new leak in the master cylinder if you pushed too hard. I've heard this can happen. Experts?

While fiddling with the pedals and board, if you disconnected the throttle cable, make sure it didn't get wound around the clutch cable.

If it worked fine before and now doesn't......

Not a chance, unless the master was on it's way out. And i'm no expert.

Bill.....are you confusing the clutch pedal stop with what you called the "brake pedal stop"?

I agree with Root_Werks....if you disconected the acc. pedal cable when doing the master cyl., it may have gotten wrapped around the clutch cable....although I see no reason to disconnect the acc. pedal cable.....

I disconnected the accel pedal ball-joint at the back of the pedal but didn't touch the throttle cable attachment point to the pedal cluster. So I'm thinking that the cables shouldn't be twisted.

Sure hope the new master cylinder is still in good shape. I would dearly hate the thought of replacing that little beast again...

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) - with all the above checks, plus check your TPS to make sure it didn't score or jamb or otherwise damage it in over-travel.

Also make sure that your transaxle to body @ trunk underside ground strap & connections are good, so that you're not frying Acc & Clutch cable as the alternative ground route!

Hopefully you upgraded to a new 19mm MC for the 914-6/911, which is a bolt-in substitute for the pricier & less capable 17 mm OE for the 914/4's!!??

Well Bud - now you know how all those Toyota owners feel!!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yikes.gif)
... but can only look in the mirror for whom to blame! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)
