So I just put all four calipers back on my car, filled the reservoir with fluid and pumped the pedal a few times to see if there were any leaks around the pistons. The system is tight, no leaks anywhere. I started bleeding the pedals in the order given by Haynes, and now all the rotors won't spin because the pistons won't retract and the brake pedal barely moves. What gives? I feel like I'm making a novice mistake somewhere.
Thanks in advance. |

is the brake pedal push rod adjusted correctly, it might be holding some pressure in the m/c by not retracting enough.

All four wheels are extremely difficult to rotate by hand now. Beforehand, The pedal had no pressure and gradually built up pressure through bleeding with the "buddy system". I did see the back left pads move inward towards the rotor while bleeding. And I'm not sure about the pedal push rod being adjusted correctly, the car has been sitting forever. Don't really know even how to make that adjustment.

Oh and I did not bleed the master cylinder. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Try opening the bleed valve a small amount on one wheel only and see if pressure bleeds off on that wheel. If it does and the wheel turns more freely, how about the other wheels? If the above wheel turns freely now, you may have the old rubber hose problem, the internal passage swells up and won't let pressure bleed off. If they all turn freely after bleeding only one wheel, you have something wrong with the master cylinder.

If you were able to bleed it, doubt it's the pedal bushing. Sounds like bad rubber lines to me, but all 4 at once is fishy.

I tried opening one of the valves on the right rear caliper, and no brake fluid came out until I pushed the brake pedal. This did allow the rotor to spin freely, but only a very small amount (not sure where it was elbow grease that allowed that or the caliper actually freed up). With that one valve open, all the other wheels were still very tight.

Not sure if it matters, but the lines in rear are braided stainless.

With the one wheel loose and the others still tight says something is wrong more central to all of the calipers, master cylinder or ?. I'll let someone with more experience answer up some advice. Maybe PM Eric Shea as he is the brakes guy.
And, the rear calipers must be adjusted after installation of pads. Eric,s site PMB Performance , has a step by step how to do that. Tom |

Well tonight I put new brake hoses on, hoping that it was just the swelling that made the brakes lock up. Why didn't you guys tell me how much fun changing the hoses would be? Or how delicious 914 crumbs taste...... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif)
