My brother received a pretty neat book on the making of the movie “Lemans” - I am looking forward to stealing it from him…

I did not know that the Sonauto 914-6GT appeared in the recreated scenes, I thought it was only in the real race footage where it was seen. The book states that there was another car “converted to appear as the race car” used for the secondary shooting. I pulled the movie out last night and sure enough, it is a different car (no “Sonauto” or “Porsche” on the hood, no red tape around the windshield, the number 40 is done differently, no lights on the door or roof – the list goes on and on). This being the case, does anyone know the whereabouts of the “fake” GT?

Did a quick look around on Armando’s site, but didn’t see anything (could have missed it).

Probably at T.C.'s house, or, he at least has a paper trail. (check Dan Root if T.C. comes up blank) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

from my best knowledge, your pics show 914.0.43.0457, which is also a Sonauto GT - but it didn't race at LeMans (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)
#0457 entered the 1970 Tour de France
#1020 entered the 1970 Le Mans race - and won the GT class (#40)

both cars are in the USA

I don't think so. The same bump is also seen on the other headlight cover. It sure looks like it is supposed to be there.

The Bic car is pretty well documented (yep, the headlight door bumps are on purpose). I guess it could be the movie clone that was re-worked, but havent seen or read anything that mentions that.

I dont know why, but the clone really interests me - like the 917 that is out there that still has all the frame modifications from where they mounted the cameras when filming.

Would love to see the clone show up at an event on display with the actual winning #40.

Hi Mr Shea -

I will drop them a PM and see. I hate it when I get hung up on something like this - it's like when I found Tommy Lee's actual stage kit from the Theater of Pain tour for sale in some random drum shop - his sister was trying to unload it. I shoulda bought that sucker (sorry for going off topic...)

Joking of course. I'm just listing the names of all the current 914Whores. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Why didn't you buy the skins?

Ha! did NOT know that was a joke!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

On the kit, I was too slow. The guy wanted something like 1100.00 for the thing, not realising who Athena Kottak was when she brought it in. I talked to the guy twice in the span of a week or so. In that time, someone clued him in and the thing hit ebay. I think it sold for ten times what I could (should) have bought it for.

Here is the really rediculous part - the new owner shipped it to Forks down in Nashville to have it re-finished!!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)
Not only was I shocked that the new owner was that dumb, I was almost more unimpressed that a drum shop would actually do it. Killed the value as far as I was concerned. It's probably sitting in one of the hard rock cafe warehouses now. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Sorry all - no more drum talk - I promise!

Back to trying to find that second #40 car..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/type.gif)
