While it might work, it probably would not work well. The Type 3 dizzy would have the wrong advance curve.

A Type 4 1.7L distributor would be better.

If you need a 2.0L distributor, send me a PM.

Ron, are both the 009 & 011 applicable to & equally effective for the 73-2.0 with D-jet? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

... or is one for early 73 MY (009?) & the other for late 73 MY (011?)? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

For some reason I thought the 009 was for 356/912 with carbs, & not the 1.7 or 2.0 with D-jet EFI, but wasn't sure on that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

The original dizzy installed was the 009. I have no data on when it was discontinued.

The 011 is the replacement for the 009. I suppose that is why it carries the "A" designation. The 011 was discontinued in production 02/2003.

Word according to Bosch!

The 311 portion of the VW part # explicitly states it is for the 311 motor which is a variation on the Beetle motor and nothing to do with a type IV.

Also...
just posting this because its easy to get this confused when looking only at the numbers in print only

the numbers Ron posted do have "009" within the part number and yet are a Djet distributor with trigger points.

often the slang part number of: "bosch 009" is used to reference the mechanical advance distributor used on carb'd motors (bugs, and sometimes 914's)

these are 2 different distributors with different advance curves. They just both happen to have those same 3 digits as part of their larger identification number.

Thanks Brant ...

If you use an example of a Bosch number

0 231 174 009

I bolded an important number, combined with the ending 3 digits actually identify the application. The last three alone mean nothing most of the time.

I have no idea what the 0 is or it's significance, but it seems all Bosch numbers begin with it.

For the most part 231 designates an "ignition distributor".

Some manufacturer's numbers make some sense and some don't. The example above translates to 039 905 205. In this case 039 designates a VW 2.0L part, just as the 311 denotes a Type 3 part.

Damn, I'm tired of typing.
