I'm making jokes now, but when the Kidney stones start moving again the laughter stops. Then is when you find out if you have the right drugs & enough of em'. I don't know what schedule this train is on.....days or weeks is what the docs at the ER tole me yesterday.....great. Been going on for a few days so far. Thus far, my right nut has been in a vise 3-4 times and then the guts go bullshit....I know, too much info. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I can't believe you actually admited this, especially with the Evil one lurking about. I doubt Scotty will let it slide like Mike did. Little stones! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sheeplove.gif) |

Beer can help in the short run, but is not indicated with pain meds, and can lead to more stones later. So, no.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) The Doc is right, as he should be. I've had them 4 times. The last time they pulverized it w/ the head of the camera. Felt like a mule had kicked me afterwards. That was 25 yr's ago. Lot's of water (your not a camel) especially if it is acidic. My last urologist told me that he had a hunch lemonade might help. He must have been right. For you lucky bastards that have yet to experience this, God bless. I've been told that it is more painful than child birth. Don't leave a loaded 38 in the room with someone passing a stone. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

OUCH! I've only passed one, and it hurt worse than anything I've ever felt. I've been told cranberry juice or lemonade helps because of the acid content.

I watched one of the toughest guys I've ever known pass 2 stones and if he'd had a way I think he'd have blown his brains out...said he didn't think anything could hurt that much.....changed his lifestyle to preclude more of them....so far, so good. Good luck, keep the meds close.....

Holy crap - I looked up causes of kidney stones and it is as if I were actively seeking to get them. From kaiser-permanente:
The following tips may lower your chance of getting kidney stones: The most important thing you can do is drink more fluids, especially water if your doctor says it is okay. Water helps to wash away the substances in the kidneys that could form stones. Try to drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. If you don't already drink that much, slowly increase how much you drink. For example, add one more glass of water each day until you are drinking 8 to 10 glasses a day. This slow increase will give your body time to adjust to the extra fluids. You are drinking enough water when your urine is clear or light yellow. If it is dark yellow, you are not drinking enough fluids. If you had a calcium kidney stone, it may help to: Eat less salt and salty foods. One way to do this is to not add salt when you cook or eat. Try removing the salt shaker from your table. Talk to your doctor or dietitian about how much calcium you need every day. Milk, cheese, and yogurt are all good sources of calcium. If you had an oxalate kidney stone, your doctor may ask you to limit certain foods that have a lot of oxalate. You don't have to give up these foods, just eat or drink less of them. These include: Coffee, teas, colas, and chocolate. Dark green vegetables, such as spinach. Peanuts. Beets, rhubarb, berries, and cranberries. Beans and tofu. Draft beer. Oranges and sweet potatoes. If you have had kidney stones in the past, it may also help to: Eat a balanced diet that is not too high in animal protein. This includes beef, chicken, pork, fish, and eggs. These foods contain a lot of protein, and too much protein may lead to kidney stones. You don't have to give up these foods. Talk to your doctor or dietitian about how much protein you need and the best way to get it. Avoid grapefruit juice. Drink lemonade made from real lemons (not lemon flavoring). It is high in citrate, which may help prevent kidney stones. Talk to your doctor if you take vitamins or supplements. He or she may want you to limit how much fish liver oil or calcium supplements you take. Also, do not take more than the recommended daily dose of vitamins C and D. |

Been there. Doubled over, could barely walk. Pain so bad I threw up. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif) Finally got help from a friend or else my next step was dial 911. I staggered into the ER. The first thing they asked was for my insurance card. Then give a urine sample. A few minutes later they told me I had a kidney stone. My screaming agonizing cry was, "NO SHIT DOC"? "YA THINK"? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon8.gif) I felt it pass from my kidney into my groin and finally passed it but didn't even feel it. The doc. said it was just a little one. Made me wonder what passing a "big" one might feel like.

We've always been taught to treat stones in two ways - like a plumber, then like a chemist.
First, you have to clean out the pipes (you're trying to do that right now) like a plumber would. But then, it's time to play chemist to try to minimize the possibility of having to go through this again. Try to stick to the lifestyle changes that will hopefully prevent you from having to go through this again. I passed one many years ago, and I certainly sympathize. The good thing is you will feel a whole lot better when it has passed! Hang in there! |

The SOB ain't moving apparently. Been peeing every 20 minutes with all the water I'm drinking. I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop for a day & a half.

Do they have you on flomax? If you are able to take it, it helps dilate your ureters so the stone can pass easier. If there is not reason to, they will not go after it. Reasons typically include: hydronephrosis (blocked ureter leading to your kidney backing up with piss), infection. Time is not really an indicator of retrieving it. However, your stone is on the cusp of retrieval size. 5-6mm is the cut off, but it is up to the urologist who is examining you.
