sorry about stealing the pic but it gave me an idea. Can you give me a dimension between the hood and thetop of the headlight cover? Where the cup is. I was thinking of a recessed headlight in that area.

How about this: Headlight cover is still motorized, but rather than popping the headlights up, the cover moves down to the position shown in the pic. The headlight itself is fixed in the area right behind the cover.
That way, when the lights are off, there is no visible difference from stock. |

I have actually thought of something like this in the past also. I think it would look very cool.

Wouldn't the light pattern be kind of screwy? It seems as though the sides and bottom of the beam would be blocked.

You wouldn't use stock style headlights. You would have to use either very low profile rectangular lights, or those new small diameter projector style lights.

Chris from Vegas already has a solution for us. Hopefully he will pipe in here soon. I suggested we pop them up about half of what they normally pop up and utilize a projection bulb.

Yeah, I had thought about doing that about 5 years ago except using rectangular lights. I decided it was way too much work for something I hardly use. Demick |

I would go with rectangular lights also. Round light in square hole looks odd.

I like the idea of the cover popping down. I think it'd look pretty slick. But a lot of work for a comsetic change. I should really get my car running first.

well, not that any of you are law abiding citizens (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
but the center of the headlights are supposed to be XX" distance from the ground (24" comes to mind) i vote for the small round lights....hurry and make it...I'd love to get rid of 20+ pounds of weight up front |

I just measured it and there is about 3 1/4" at the outer edge and 3 3/4" at the inner. That's free space below the lid.
I think it would be cool if the cover swung down at the back to expose the headlights. There must be something already available that could be fit into the space. I know I've seen other cars using a similar shape. 300ZX comes to mind for one. If I'm not mistaken Dave Cafro already has something like this on his 914. In order to meet the height rule one just has to raise the ride height a little before inspection. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

I never liked the way the camaro's square lights were staggered. It looked like a mistake.

You mean these lights?
90mm Hella H7's are btwn $50 and $60 each so don't expect anyone to make a kit for $100. I'm looking to do something because I've never liked the stock light eyebrows. |

I've wanted to do something like that Hella kit, but put smoked plexiglas in the place where the covers are now so that you have a smooth line that matches the hood. I'm just surprised that there aren't any lights that will work that are small enough to fit in the height available. There are several models of Honda Acuras that have lights that look like they would work, but I've never measured them.
