Looking at quick release hubs and wondering what experience all y'all have had. I've read some install threads on the cheapy eBay hubs but really couldn't find any long term threads to see how loose they got over time.

Hubs I'm looking at:

Rothsport $395 (cough, cough... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif))

Snap-Off $189

LTB Motorsport $135

While the Rothsport one is expensive, it is the best one I have ever seen.

LOL. I have a feeling something was "lost in translation" when they came up with that name...regardless, it is a nice product.

No, it has no built-in provision for a horn. You might be able to custom-modify it to work, or just get the street version.

Did you use their shorter adapter or a MOMO ? They sell a shorter adapter that is supposed to be shorter than the MOMO so the extra 1 1/4 inches the snap off occupies is offset . Any thoughts on that ?

I currently have a MOMO Prototipo on a MOMO adapter.

I've just bought a nice quick release from: albert@goingsuperfast.com.

You can check out their website. It ended up being very reasonable and it is a great unit.

What I don't like is the added inches. So I am going to cut down my Momo adapter and should be able to get the steering wheel a bit further away.

I personally don't like the Nascar seating position.

Are you asking me?

Anyway not sure what you mean by the question, i.e., why would anyone want a quick release for their 914 or why did I buy a quick release that was tall?

The first question is pretty straight forward, i.e., it's nice to have the room getting in and out.

The second question is that I didn't do enough homework and thought a couple of inches wouldn't matter. Secondly, when buying a quick release there are so many options, so I just asked which one was best and the vendor told me. As it turns out the unit is really nice, but just to high.

Well, yea. Asking out loud. But, if thats your car under your name, I can see why you would want one. Strictly wondering for street cars.

I would want one because my non-stock seats and roll cage make it difficult to get by the steering wheel. Not necessary for a stock vehicle.

You may not have progressed to the point that you've learned this from personal experience, but when you get older you don't bend as well any more. A removable wheel makes dealing with all that easier. But don't misunderstand, that's certainly not MY problem...

No, mine is so I have an extra layer of theft control when I leave the car parked somewhere with the targa in the trunk. Take the wheel with you or throw it there with the targa and lock the trunk and you can be pretty sure your car will still be there when you get back. Plus I have one that extends the wheel toward me another 2-3 inches, which is a more efficient driving position. For me, anyway.

I've used the SmartRacing quick-disconnect since 1999 and it's held up perfectly. It's splined rather than a hex or cam-locked. It's on page 7 in the link below.

Good luck
