As my wife and I pull out of the driveway yesterday in our truck, I glance at our Volvo sitting on the street.....I notice something odd about the drivers side...holy sh!t, some A-hole f'd up the side of the car with a screwdriver or something hard and sharp...right down to the metal.

We drove around the nieghborhood and saw at least 10 more cars that had the same type damage. There seemed to be no rhyme or reason as the vehicles hit. Upon talking to someone else that had been victimized, the police think it might be gang related due to one of the cars getting "X4" or some crap like that scratched into it.

The death penalty might be too harsh for this stuff, but I'd have no problem cutting off an apendage of thiers to give them a daily reminder of thier wrong doing.

About the only good thing about this, is that they didn't touch, our truck, the red car and most importanly the 911 that was (and still is (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ) sitting in the driveway.

Mike: I am afraid you or nieghbors will need to install a low light camera, so if these bastards come back, you can get them on tape, hopefully with a plate number on there vehicle. You can then call the cops, or track them down yourselves. Other option is to hide out in the bushes and wait for them. Have a gun handy just incase they are armed, hate to see you get hurt.

best of luck in getting them bastards.

Somebody tried to pry the hood emblem of my Ferrari; they are bolted on so it bent but did come of....broke the screwdriver they used, embeding the tip in my hood.

They then took the broken screw-driver and ran it across the hood a few times...

Sorry to hear about that man. I had some punks put an axe through the windshield on my last car for no reason.

Last summer, just down down the street from my place, some punks walked down the entire street, about 6 blocks, and smashed the windsheild of every car on the road. Shit like that really pisses me off! Wrecking something other people worked hard for, just for fun! I think losing a hand would be great punishment.

Mike,
Sorry to hear that! We moved to a "nicer" neighborhood, Willow Glen to avoid vandalism and then got our van broken into that was parked right in front of our house! Make sure the street lights are bright enough. Ours were dim so I called the city to replace them.

Bummer dude. Sorry to hear about that. I have no advice other than you could consider wiring the car to 110v and letting them find out the hard way.

Sorry to hear about that. We've had similar incidents including my wife's Land Crusher getting keyed a couple months after I bought it for her, and also a couple years ago some windows on my S4 were shot-out with a pellet gun. That kind of shit really sucks...as if we all have extra time and money to burn dealing with this crap. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fighting19.gif)

Jay's 914 just got hosed last weekend too. No clear motive or suspected person. Bent his wiper arms, broke off his antenna, and pryed this roof up in the rear with ??? bending the latch. That stuff was an easy fix, just tweeking stuff back. This happened right in front of his house on a busy street under a street lamp...

Then he put it on the main street down here (where everybody lines up their car's for sale) on Sunday, and in the middle of the day, on a high traffic street, somebody got in the roof again and stole everything in his center console and his radio face plate (yea, you are supposed to remove those...).

Sucks, and we aren't in a high crime area either.

My 914 was actually set on fire by a jealous neighbor. I used to have one of those "turbo tail" rear spoilers and it was lit ablaze by this major league a-hole white trash hick kid two houses down. Burned the paint off the rear hood and burnt to a crisp one of my euro tail lights. Couldn't prove it, but I know it was him.

Mike, Sorry to hear of the damage. I just got the turbo back from the repaint caused by the last bit of vandalism. I definitely feel your pain. Right now, the car sees limited action. Sigh.

Steve, sorry to year of the damage to Jay's car! (I still have some bits from his earlier car -- or at least I think it was his car .. heh -- that are now looking for a home:))

I've thought about having stickers made. "This vehicle under video surveillence at all times" and then back it up when possible (like at home). Nothing is 100% affective (except maybe that european flame thrower alarm) but it would be nice to catch a punk and may them pay.

Bummer dude. Sorry to hear about that. I have no advice other than you could consider wiring the car to 110v and letting them find out the hard way.

I mounted little metal strips under the door handles on my first car when I was at college since I had to park the car two blocks away from the dorm all the time. I wired the strips straight to the battery using a little switch actuated by the cheap little $50 alarm I had. So if someone tried to open my car door with the alarm activated, they'd get a nice little zap. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

Never used it though as I was warned by a police officer that if someone did hurt themselves, especially like a small kid or something, I may be spending some quality time with Bubba in the state pen. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon8.gif)

I think the camera is the safest way. Perhaps least personally rewarding, but the safest. Or maybe that "Trunk Monkey". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol2.gif)

You need way more than 12V to zap someone. That is why you can hold onto both terminals of a car battery and not get shocked. Now maybe if they put their tongue across the terminals, that would work. You need at least 50-100 volts to get any serious effect through dry skin. A few kV at small fractions of an amp would be much more effective and still non lethal (people with heart problems and pacemakers should probably stay away).

My step-dad did that. He lived up over Boulder Creek, and one neighbor had several large dogs that he just let run wild. They got into everything, dug up the garden, broke the irrigation pipes, and scred the hell out of my mom. So he wired up a transformer (he's an electrical geek) to put out about 100 kV at about 2 mA. Ran two strips of chicken wire across the driveway, where the dogs had been getting in, put them about 10" from each other. One day the dogs saw Mom getting the mail, and charged at her. She was very pleased to see them get to the entrance of the driveway and then turn around and run straight the other way.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
