Thought you guys might be interested in these. The little car held up pretty good for what it was put through. Right now I am dealing with the question as what to do with the car? Any suggestions? I was considering trying to save it...adding a body kit in the long run. Maybe creating a large go cart for pure play. Or parting it out?

Can't see any of the Tripod images...imagine that <_<

I bet both doors still open fine, right? Save it. If you can find a front clip then put it on. My damage wasn't as bad as yours but I'm still kicking myself for parting out and scraping my 914 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

The crumple zone on these cars are great! Did the engine drop to the ground?

Most important thing is that you are OK.

Reminds me of when I was looking for my 2nd 914, back in '79 I saw one that centered a utility pole doing around 45. If you didn't look above the dash, and didn't notice the slightly buckled floorpan, you wouldn't no the car had hit anything.

I'd find a donor chassis. You'll spend more money than it's worth, repairing such major damage. and it will be very hard to make it right.

probably has a ton of good parts on it. strip it bare and junk the rest. ebay the parts to help fund one as nice. there is absolutely no sense in trying to repair a $5k car like that. you'll dump a bunch of money/time into it and it'll still be a wrecked car.

Sorry to say, but it likely is not worth repairing. (and I love orange 914's) Best bet economically is to get a new one. i cannot image the cost of repair to be even equal too, much less less than the cost of a new one. Just transfer the best parts, and sell off the rest. If you attempt repair, it will always be a repair of a totalled car. Good rolling tubs can be had for $1000 to $2000. Add paint, and put the good parts in it, then sell of all the other parts, you will come out ahead, and not own a former totaled car.

Do not settle for the insurances first offer, tell then the car is worth maybe $5000 (a typical 1.7 can be documented to be worth that amount) tell them you want the $5000 and keep the wreck. With the $5000 you can pick up a decent 914, and then sell the left overparts, maybe even end up with a better car, and some change in your pocket.

if you have trouble documenting a high price for your car, please let me know, i can help, as can others on the list. i have been thru this more than once, and and have done this.

Birgit is getting raked over the coals with her wrecked 914. I think they are up too 6300$ with a 1250$ buy back. This after 22k in receipts in the last 4 years. We had an appraisal from Bruce Anderson... receipts from Jerry Woods (engine) blah blah.. nothing is working.

Were you using the original seat belts, or had they been replaced at some time? Glad you're alive to tell the tale. Too bad about the car, but it's way better than loosing your life!

Yes thank God everyone is okay. I am pretty lucky. I was traveling about 61mph before sliding with the brakes locked for about 24 - 25 feet and then collision. Crazy scary ride. It happened so fast! It probably helped that he was not on the brakes and rolling slowly forward. I pushed him in the ditch.

I hit an early 90's minivan. His van didn't look to bad considering. His bumper was pushed underneath and the hatch/trunk was messed up but still opened and closed!

The crumple zone of this little 914 was amazing. It crumpled right to the gas tank and then stiffened up. I don't see any damage on the gas tank itself yet. Near the bottom the metal protecting it is bent. I can't open the pass. door. But that's because the fender is pushed against it. I am hoping/expecting it to open and close fine once I get the fender off of it. You can see where both doors (on the side that opens) banged the rear fenders...but then they came back to original position. I can't tell if it collapsed the passenger side floor in or not? I don't remember how much leg room the passenger side had. Now it is quite less than the drivers side.?? Also the pass. door is slightly pushed out where the little glass is suppose to seal against the windshield post.

The trans mounts did break and pushed the motor forward. Therefore my shifter is not working correctly. I am hoping the shifter will work when I get the trans/engine back in place.

I don't really want to sell it...I would rather fix it...hot rod it...or make a cool ass go kart?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sawzall-smiley.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) How much could I get a front clip for? Is this something I could do myself? Maybe I could find a clip with some upgraded 911 parts! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mueba.gif) I would love the 930 front.

Thier was only liability. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The original seat belt held me in. My thought before the crash was this is going to be bad. It was immediately over. I checked myself and the cab in amazement that I didn't hit the steering wheel. First thought after the crash: "That seat belt did a good job!"

Keep the ideas coming on what I should do.

Yep, helps dissapate the impact. Does it look kinda like this (what mine looked like)? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

My engine and tranny were still good (but my impact was "only" 35mph). If you junk it make sure you strip it of EVERYTHING! There are a LOT of good parts that you'll want when you get another (my situation right now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ).
