I found these in the trunk of my new car, look like regular 914 shocks with some sort of two+ inch extension on the top. Why in the world would someone install these?Attached Image Attached Image

Laguna Seca at the 2010 "Historics" when Porsche was feature marque.

There was a row of 914's on the access road accross near turns 2 & 3

Tom Woodward. He's the guy who owned Carranza racing in NJ and did the vin switch on my car when he built it. Along with the other sleazy repairs. I found him on ebay selling Porsche parts under the name Prince-Porsche or something similar. Many shady stories attached to the operation and eventual closing of his shop in NJ before he moved west.

The vin swap was unknown to me for 25 years until Scotty B (and 914World) uncovered it in my build thread. Tom sold me a '74 that was really a '71 body. It was taken down to bare metal when Tom/Caranza rebuilt it and sold it to me so I'm sure he was the one who did it. People on this board who remember him and the shop have contacted me and told me about other shady dealings he was part of. The red and white 914 was on ebay at one time. Maybe it has my cars vin?

No, as far as the state of NJ, DMV, insurance, ect. it's a '74. The welded in vin in the trunk and windshield match up to the vin on the paper registration. It's not like people at the dmv know the minor differences in the cars. Now that it's a GT inspired car with a 6, it looks differ even more from a normal 914. This happened 25 years ago and I don't foresee any future problems. I'm not selling and if I did, I would make full disclosure. Still, doesn't mean I don't still have bad feelings towards Tom and the way he scammed me for both the vin and the bondo & tar paper covered rust issues that remained with the car. It was a hack job and he knowingly scammed an 18 year old kid - me!
