After a long time haietis, I am back in the seat of another 914!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

And it feels good to be back on these boards as well. Going through a few threads on my way to post this, I remembered just how much fun I had on here in the past. As well as all of the much appreciated help you older more experienced Gents (And THE WOMEN!!) were always so willing to give.

Well, its been 5 years since I sold my corvette yellow '73 and its time to paint the new '74!

In the past 3 months, my uncle and I gutted the car all but the tank and dash, removed and treated all rust, including a front passenger fender replacement, and both longs being WAAAY worse than originally thought. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif)

We sanded through the what seemed to be 5 or 6 paint jobs, taking the whole car down to metal, finding lots and lots of bondo along the way (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif)

However there was hope, my uncle being an experienced auto body guru... Alot of time was spent in ensuring that there was as little bondo as possible on this car, and under primer at this moment in time, it really does show. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif)

I am kind of rushing my way through this post because I'm hoping one of you will be able to help me. I at this time are unable to find any paint codes on the net that I like! I'm open to any darker, metallic reds, or pearl colors, again red.
This car rebuild that has undergone has been from a special savings account that I setup for just the occasion. However, a month ago, work became very slow, and I spent most of the month of september staring at the car, not having the last few hundred bucks to get my color and chemicals.

Fast forward too today, and I've got the money burnin in my pocket!! I wanna run out and get the stuff now, but I for the life of me cant find any color codes I like!!! Whoever comes up with the color code I like will be thanked with a Gift! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) (Gift to be determined in near future)

Gonna run out and throw in my new clutch cable and hook up my fuel line, and she should be ready to fireup for the first time with the new(new to pan) engine!

I'm gonna post a new thread with more details and pics of the build, but for the time being, I wanna spray this car this evening...

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO MADE IT THIS FAR, THAT IS WHY I LOVE THIS FORUM/COMMUNITY!

thanks again folks,

Richard

I want to see a picture of the body work. I think you should buy a bag of Skittles and pick your color from those choices

Here's (I believe) Bahia Red in single stage (not clear coated), for your reference. Good luck on your decision and good decision to live in Carlsbad! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Phoenix red is my favorite 914 color (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) but I don't think it is what you are looking for.

Be aware that a newer porsche(Or any car) paint in a 3 stage could be close to $1k in just material costs just for the paint... On the low end...

However you can get a solid color for well under $200

What is your paint materials budget? I think that would help us help you determine the paint color.

Original color is always best, and better for resale! If you don't know the color and don't have the COA, it's worth it to purchase the COA to go with the car anyway. Good luck!

After loading up a few pictures off of my blackberry, I am suddenly unaware of just how bad the camera is.

I will be starting a new thread with a more in depth write up, as well as many more pics.

But for the time being, the primed body...

Thanks for all your guys opinions. I really wanted to stay red, however I couldnt bring myself to choose a factory color (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Color of choice: 2005 Mercedes SL500 Firemist Red (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) By no means am I a purist, and the car will never be concourse, but I love it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

Note* Windshield is out along with all sealant. Simply in place to keep nature out temporarily.

Found www.tcpglobal.com to be a Paint supplier not too far from me, and I have heard a couple of good things from them so far. Anyone on here have any experience?

Prices seem to be great, compared to what I have been quoted recently...
