I am looking for a good diagram of the vacuum routing for a 73 1.7. All the ones I have found are not the best. I need to know where the two lines go for the vacuum advance one the throttle body.

try this. Keep in mind every car may not have every hose. EGR no EGR etc.

I have a '74 1.8L.
The second hose from vacuum advance (actually a vacuum retard) is not there on mine. The throttle body is not even drilled for it. |

What exactly do you need to know? On mine, which is a 74 2.0L, the advance hose is not hooked up, only the retard. I'm not sure if 73s have the advance port.
Now, the retard port is on the back of the throttle body, pointing towards the back of the trunk. It hooks up to the dizzy canister port that points towards the dizzy and battery. If there is another port on your throttle body, it hooks up to the port on the dizz that points away from the dizzy. If there is no port, just leave the advance port open to the atmosphere. Here is a pic that will hopefully help. Attached image(s) ![]() |

The vacuum advance port is above the throttle plate and the retard is below the throttle plate. Actually, the hose are two sizes so look carefully at them.

Geoff OK. I just need a little clarification. Is the retard port on the TB below the throttle plate when the throttle is closed and above it when the throttle is open? And is the advance port above the throttle plate when the throttle is closed and below it when the throttle is open? And what do you guys make of this: my '74 2.0, which I have had a month and I am still checking out, has both the retard and advance connected to a tee that connects to the port on the rear of the throttle body (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Sounds like some mechanic made a mistake. Maybe he saw the advance port on the distributor with nothing connected to it and "fixed" it? Andrew This post has been edited by phantom914: Aug 1 2004, 12:24 AM |
