Apparently, I lead a dramatic life. That or Mr. Jesus doesn't want me to own 914's. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)
On my way into work this morning in the 914, a semi decides to run me off the road by merging into my lane. I was thinking about that scene in National Lampoon's Xmas Vacation where Clark Griswold drives underneath the Semi's trailer and within the split second I had, considered giving it a try. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I was in his blind spot, but considering the traffic, it wasn't really something I could help. He forced me about 6in from the Jersey Wall before he realized I was there. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) First reaction was I laid on the horn, which barely drown out the sound of me crapping my pants. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) Needless to say, I need a louder horn. If I can't be seen, I should at least be heard! With that said, I'm not interested in installing a train horn or anything of the like. I've always been interested in the high pitched 911 horns, however. Didn't these come on mid to late 911s? Something like the second horn in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsQftCK4Q6g Or maybe something a little more high-pitched like this one: (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEAGnyWgANY These horns from JC Whitney are pretty cheap and 134db... http://www.jcwhitney.com/134db-dual-trumpe...s/p2009002.jcwx Anybody have any recommendations on loud high-pitched horns? Can the genuine 911 horns be had for cheap? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) |

When I lived in Florida, I installed a set of air horns in my 914. Then when a blue hair in a Cadillac or other gargantuan car from the '70s/'80s started to merge into my lane, a quick blast would wake them up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I have used the little red air horns on my car. They are really loud but I couldn't get them to last more than a year. Seems like I was always replaceing them. "Works fine DON'T last a long time". ( With apologies to Pratt and Whitney).

After a (insert derogatory term here) rolled through a a stop sign right in front of me, I decided loud horns and brakes that work a little better were a must.

A pair of Wolo "Bad Boys" would do the trick and they are fairly reasonable.
http://www.harborfreight.com/bad-boy-air-horn-94117.html Geoff (Bleyseng) had some good sounding horns on his 914. I don't know what they were, maybe he'll chime in. |

I like the sound of the stock 911 horns (dual tone). Does anyone know if they're air horns?

I run back and forth to work daily on 15 miles of busy freeway.
I use my horns at least three times a week. I have the stock one and an additional VW bug 12v under the front air-dam. Not loud enough to wake stupefied drivers from their comas. I want a fire engine horn!! Any laws to worry about? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiImxG8Zsqo |

I put a Nautilus-style air horn on my VFR800 and it helped. I had to mount the compressor and the dual-tone horn separately but it wasn't a big deal. Sounds a lot like the ROW horn in the first video, its loud, and it was only $35.....and it was small enough to mount on the bike.
