I have a 10 gallon fuel cell for my IMSA car and I am starting to wonder if that is
large enough.

How far will 10 gallons take me at 75% racing speed with a 2.5 L six with 40 IDAs?

Before I weld up the framework for holding the cell I need to decide if this is big
enough.

Any experience and insight would be great.

Thanks,

John

my builder has put about 20 914 race cars together
his advice to me for track use:

4cylinder = 10 gallon cell
6cylinder = 15 gallon cell

you can always run a cell less than full (to cut weight)
and more capacity gives you the ability to do enduro events

that said, we go through about 5-6 gallons every 20 minutes with a 2.0/6 on the track. We use a tiny bit more when we visit sea level as we normally run small jets at 5500 ft of elevation.

You should consider 8-10mpg.

I am thinking of doing some road rally type events where you drive 250 miles every
day. This would be time/distance type events where you can't push much because
the road ahead is unknown except for pace notes.

I am thinking I need at least 150 miles of range between refueling.

It does not sound like 10 gallons is going to cut it.
