In the 914 info section, under production numbers it only shows production #'s for Model Years 1969 to 1975
When 928 production was winding down they didn't have actual production for a couple years (1991-92?) |

Did a quick check on member's Vins and there are plenty of 476 vVINs |

How about this, compiled by PCA with help from PCNA & Porsche.....
AFAIK - & as Andy said, all the 76 MY's were actually built in late 75 in an effort to close out the 914 model, because the Karmann plant was switching over to the 924 production & had extensive retooling to do. They were also trying to use up their parts stock with the last of the 76 914s, as they had the 912E also available for the entry level Porsche - to fill in until the 77 924s were available for market. BTW - for most car mfgrs. the model year starts in August/Sept. of the calendar year prior to the model year, and usually ends in the July/August of the same calendar year of the model year (similar to the typical school term for K-12 & college overlapping 2 calendar years). There was usually a 2-4+ week break between MYs' production, in order to change over the lines to the new upcoming MY. This would've been the case at the Karmann plant preceding the 70 MY production kick-off in summer 69, and so on every summer thereafter - although there were only moderate body shell changes 70-74 to 75-76 MYs due to the 5 mph bumpers & their impact absorbing shocks, with the other MY changes being more akin to parts bin changes. Not sure if this gets to what you're looking for, but hope it helps. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

You can see some 76 MY Window stickers & VINs here (along with the other MYs)..... http://bowlsby.net/914/Classic/WindowStickers.htm Your 75 built 8/74 would've been at the start of the 75 MY production. My 73 was likewise an early production in 8/72. cheers! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Tom /////// |

The 914 line was closed down because of the new Scirroco front wheel drive cars needed a production line. VW simply kicked Porsche out as in 1974 Porsche had bought out VW's interest. Porsche did look into continuing the 914 production elsewhere but figured there just wasn't enough sales to do this looking at the decline of sales from 1973 to 1975. The 924 was built in Audi plants. |

Short version, a customer paid Porsche in 1975 to build him a 914/6 using all factory parts. It had steel flares and the big '75 rubber bumpers. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) |

I wonder if they would do that for me in 2012 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) It never hurts to ask, everyone has a price (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) Group buy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) |

Thanx for correcting my half-zymers memory Geoff, I was originally thinking Scirocco, but then got wires crossed thinking about the 914 phase-out for the 924 & typed that instead! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I'll take metallic blue with tan leather interior, Mahles & full appearance & performance group options please! ....oh, and R134 factory air too! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) .... although we'll want to make sure that the 914-6 body shells get dipped in the zinc rust treatment tub with the new bodies before painting! QUOTE Yes, and your point is??? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) http://www.914world.com/specs/productionnumbers.php The production numbers listed are not by MY, they are by year. Nowhere on that pages does it say anything about MY. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) I guess my point is that I was confused...production #'s were for actual calendar dates and not MY. MY #'s are more important IMHO. I get that a door jam sticker that says 8/74 does not mean the MY of the car is a 74...that would be indicated in the VIN showing 475...Tom's post shows MY stats...maybe that should be added to the 914 info page to keep the confused straight. I guess that explians the 69 914's |
