On most of the other web sites I post at you are given an option to add a title to images you upload and post. Later I have often stumbled across many of these images when searching on Google.
Here your attached files are automatically given a title like "post 2 123456789". I have never seen an picture posted on 914World.com turn up on any of my searches. Is it possible for the administration to give us the option of selecting our own title for our posted images? This would certainly give us more exposure to others when they are searching the Internet for 914 information. |

i'm sure an admin will correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think it would help.
Google crawls websites (maybe not literally, maybe it';s another technology, but the principle is the same...) and parses the HTML it finds. the 914Club doesn't really have any HTML -- the pages and page content are stored in a database and the "effective" page is built on the fly in response to your request and served to your computer. the images don't live anywhere the Google searches can find them... |

QUOTE(ArtechnikA @ Aug 31 2004, 10:20 AM) i'm sure an admin will correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think it would help. let me correct you ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) yes, this BBS (oops, i said it again) is dynamically created, but first of all, the pages don't come out of the database, the basic page layout is still in the PHP script, the script just feeds in information out of the database "on the fly" ... but, for the end-user (or the spider/crawler) this is not relevant at all. here's how it works: when you type in www.914world.com in your browser, our web-server get's a request. the webserver then executes the PHP script, which, behind the scenes, takes the HTML bit & pieces, fills in the dynamic database content, generates a finished web-page and the server then streams that page to the client. from a client browser point of view, there is absolutely NO difference between a completely static (on the server) webpage and a dynamically created (on the server) web-page because the client always gets the completely finished page, either way. having said that, yes, it would make perfect sense to have the pictures named something other than "pic123" because the name would be part of the HTML code that a spider "sees" and therefore would be indexed. it would help with pushing the club site up a notch on search engines ... it is duable, but that would be a *major* overhaul of the BBS (oops, i said it again) software! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) all images ever posted to this site are still on the server, they're all there and you can access them if you know the name, like the one below, uploaded 11/06/2003: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-...-1068129390.jpg (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-2-1068129390.jpg) |

what I meant was, if you change the naming convention will it affect the old images, and therefore ruin the old pages?
