ok. i did something real stupid. i just sealed up my short block, and look over at my work top, and see my windage tray sitting there. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) do i need to take it apart and install it? this is going into a dry sump full flow 914/4 street car that will see time attack road courses. ARGH!

911 engines don't have a windage tray.

My first reaction is that you probably don't need it on a dry-sump /4, but to be fair, I have no experience with dry-sump Type IV engines.

Primarily for wet sump engines to keep oil from being picked up by the spinning crank creating parasitic drag (loss of HP).

On the race cars, we ran a windage tray along with a crank scraper.

Don't bother. Especially on a dry sump, where there is no oil in the sump.
