This is more of a fishing post than anything else. For those of you who don't know, I consider myself a bit of a hobbyist writer. I spend my weekdays hawking parts, and my weekend researching, writing, and photographing cool Porsches for 9Magazine. Sure, we aren't the biggest Porsche enthusiast magazine, but we are certainly enthusiastic about our enthusiasts. Anyway, it's been a while since we have had a 914 feature, and I figured its about darn time we did.
So, who is within driving distance of north-eastish Ohio with an interesting 914 that would like to have a piece written about their car? Modified, bone stock, clean 6-conversion, original six, anything. I'm open to hearing from you guys! On the flip side of that...Who here has the most interesting 914? One that would be worth traveling to see? One that everyone would want to see a piece written about? Takers? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? |

I think you should do the Buttercup Story! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) Not only is it a beautiful car but you could also tell of how this great teener community came together for a miraculous build. It was very well documented and just needs to be gotten out to the world. |

I'm an hour away from you and I have three cars you may be interested in. Two 74s and a 73 all 2.0 and all in excellent condition. Let me know. Ray

I have a factory Ice green metallic 914 2.0L, but the engine isn't entirely done being refreshed. Should be in two weeks or so though.

Though honestly I agree the Buttercup build should get it if possible.

mine is slightly modified... and has an interesting story behind it of how my wife and I picked it up so I could have a 'toy' for while recovering from a series of surgeries that included a fun venture of watching my intestines rupture through an open incision. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
(and I'd add another vote to the Buttercup build, it has the included theme of 'unity' and 'compassion' on a grand scale!) |

I vote for buttercup. With that being said I will also throw my car in the bucket. It's a 70 with 73 2.0, setup for Axing and has a custom built trailer hitch. Not sure how far you consider "driving distance" from you is?

Not sure how far you consider "driving distance" from you is? Draw a semi circle from Scranton, PA through Lexington, KY and Charleston, VA up to about Indianapolis, and over to Chicago. That's the radius I would *like* to stay within. A cooler car can get me farther. Buttercup sounds like an awesome story (I'm not intimately familiar with it, but I know the cliffs notes version), unfortunately, Kansas is a bit of a trek for me... |

I don't think I've ever seen a write up in about LE's. Jeff Bowlsby is a great source for them.

Buttercup is the epitome of what 914World is all about. How the "World" rallyed around a need and found a way to fulfill that need. The side stories of the kindness and generousity that came from a simple post asking for nothing more than help to find a parts and what happened from there would make a great screenplay as well as a great magazine article that would practically write itself.
Obviously I think the Buttercup story has to be told to the "rest" of the World... |
