I found a gauge in a '74 914 that I am unsure about. The gauge is a fuel level, brake, oil, alt. and temp gauge. I was under the impression that the fuel/temp combo gauge only came in the 914/6s. This car has no swaybars, no center gauge console but has the reverse out vinyl striping. Was originally a 1.8.
Does anyone think this is a 914/6 gauge or is it no big deal? My '75 has a similar gauge (red is about 1/4 of the way from the end of the gauge on my car, 1/2 of the way on this gauge). PO told me that my gauge is an original 914/6. Thanks. |

The 74 914s 2.0L with out the console option had this nice piece of equipment, I would love to have it, mine orginally came this way. But the gauge is now in a car in Alabama. If you want to part with it, I would be forever grateful.

It has a temp scale, fuel scale and 3 idiot lights- Brake, gen, oil..?
Look for a date stamp on the back. It's probably the 914 gauge, BUT! The 3 gauge 912's and many late 356's had this gauge in them. They work great. I have one in my car- but the oil temp gauge uses a special sender- it reads reisistance backwards from more modern-er gauges- if you dont have the right sender it pegs when you turn the car on and after a while it may read 1/2 HOT if it works at all. Is the trim ring around the gauge chrome or black? Chrome is 912/911 up to late 67'. Black is a 68' or the 914 2.0 gauge. And the black trim gauges usually have the orange needles... You guys know you can "remove" the big E-brake warning lense from the stock 914 gauge and stick a temp gauge right in there? Pretty simple, not sure why nobody does it. Is this the guage you are talking about? I bought this one off Evilbay for $100.00 about a year ago or so when my car was still a 4 cylinder, now I have the V8 and will not be using it. If anyone is interested in it. The part number on it is 914 641 101 50

If the guage you are describing has a small silver cap in the very center of the guage, then it is from a 914-6.
If the guage doesn't have the small silver cap in the center, then it is from a '74 or newer 914 2 Liter car that came from the factory without a center gauge console below the dash. (Like the one Scott shows above) |

The gauge does have the 3 idiot lights (brake, gen. and oil). It also has the silver cap in the middle and a black trim ring. Part # is: 914 641 101 30 If this is originally from a /6, i'm definitely hanging onto it! |

914 641 101 10 and 914 641 101 20 are for the 914-6.
914 641 101 30 and 914 641 101 50 are for the 914-4. There should be a month and year stamped on the back of your gauge. If I were a betting man, I would bet yours is stamped with MM.72 or MM.73 MM equals the month (example 11.72) |
