I'm still taking apart my new (to me) '76 2.0 for cleaning and I have the fan shroud laid bare with all screws removed. The edges all are free to separate.
There seems to be a pin in the middle of the body of the unit which is holding it together.

Do the halves separate or is it just a tease?

It does split into two, there are alignment pins that hold it together, if all the fasteners have been removed, some careful prying should get it to separate.
Good luck

Don't force it apart. Find all of the nuts and bolts holding the halves together. It may take some digging due to dirt and grease buildup.

I can only see the one pin. I'll double check to ensure all fasteners are removed.
I'll use some wood wedges to try to separate the halves. gentle taps!
