I drove some mountain roads for a few hours yesterday - what a blast. I found paved forestry roads all over the place. This is a pull over spot (gravel) a few minutes from the house:

Nice ride! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumb3d.gif)

I would stay away from the Colorado 914 crew though. Those guys are trouble! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

You are right about those Colorado 914 guys - they are double trouble - I wished I lived closer! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I am about 7 hours from Denver down in the four corners area - much closer to Albuquerque than Denver.

I can't - flying to California for business Sunday. And I now live closer than ever.

There is a rumor that a certain "Alien" will be at my house Thursday though..

Yep - Ouray rocks - and the drive from my house to Ouray is breathtaking - known as "Switzerland of America" (http://www.ouraycolorado.com/) and the Million Dollar Highway.

I drove it 2 weeks ago (but not in the 914).

Welcome to Colorado!! I am from Flagstaff and you do have some great driving roads in and around, to and from, over hill and dale, or whatever way you want to look at the Durango area. I love driving to Silverton for coffee and then on to Uray, and points in all directions.

Watch out for the Colorado contigent; they are definitely fun loving group; like to cause......?????

Great country to live in and enjoy all seasons.

Hey Steve,

I already found the Brown Bear Cafe for early breakfast in Silverton - before the narrow gauge train arrives from Durango..

There is a nice little lake on the way - you should make sure to stop there - very relaxing after carving the roads:

Oops - I did it again - what I meant to say was the drive to Silverton is boring and crowded and the coffee is terrible... I'm learning Ferg - (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

This is from a motorcycle trip we did a couple of years ago. We left LA and headed east, staying off the freeway as we made our way to Denver. This is just inside Colorado on Colorado 141. About 5 miles west of this was a beautiful drop through the hills seen in the background. We ended up coming out near Montrose and then took Colorado 50 East. The guys I took with me had never travelled the state roads and had a great time!

Very cool - there is so much driving to be done here - you can't go wrong.

US 50 then to 285 is a great way to get to Denver. I-70 is for 18 wheelers.

Dammit - I mean the roads are flat, straight and present no challenge at all other than the aforementioned ladies that seem to congregate around college campuses in Colorado.
