Anyone able to measure the overall length of their car without bumpers? I'm trying to find out if I can fit my '73 1.7 into the freight elevator at my workshop, so I can do the restoration in a nice, large heated area.
I think I saw somewhere that the overall length with bumpers (depending if you have the tits or not) is around 159 1/2". My freight elevator has a depth in the mid-high 140's, so i'm just thinking I might be able to take off the bumpers to shoe-horn it in. Yet again another drawback of having a manufacturing business on the 3rd floor... |

I think it's just under 144 with both gates closed. It is possible to "trick" the elevator into thinking the gates are closed which buys a few extra inches front and back (it's likely from the Roosevelt administration).
I own a furniture company, and I know when I buy rough sawn wood at 12' lengths they are just a little too long to fit straight in, though they are always "overcut", so this is probably the least accurate way of measuring. I'll double check tomorrow when I'm back in the shop. |

this did cross my mind... but it would have to go sideways and at an angle. as in, I'd have to make a tilting rack to mount it to, tip it onto one of it's doors, and then wheel it into place. It just so happens I made a tilting table a while back for a large conference table see photo, and I really did think about beefing it up to hold the teener... ![]() |

Not sure if this will help... But I just did a rough measurement on a 1970
without bumpers and I got 148" Again, rough measure.. and a 70, not a 73. Don't know if there is a difference in length between years??. Disclaimer.. Measured by a left handed Italian with a tape measure out in a cold garage... Your result may be different. |

I got 150", +/- 2", with a tape measure in a cold shelter on a '72 w/o bumpers. You're gonna have to tilt it up. Can you rig an A-frame hoist at the back of the elevator to raise one end?

Just don't try it upside down. yeah! how do I keep iphone photos from being upsidedownways? When you snap a picture, make sure you're holding the phone with the home button situated to the right. If you're holding the phone with the home button situated to the left, you're holding the phone upside down. The iPhone, iPhoto, Preview, and some image viewers (Irfanview & Gimp for example) are smart enough to know which way is up. But most web browsers and many image viewers won't take image orientation into account when displaying pictures. To get technical about it, if you view the EXIF data of your photo, you'll see that the image orientation is bottom-right. It should be top-left. |

Jack up the front or rear ends and make your length.

Just build a ramp to the 3rd floor and drive it through a window. Easy peasy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)
