Check out the spectator with the camera in the first few frames. Looks like about two feet of separation between him and the car. People can be unbelievably stupid at events like this.

Takes a long time to get safety crews up to an accident at the Pike.

And why do red chair guy and green chair guy have their colorful chairs pointed at their battery powered TV instead of the race? Darrel and Darell left for a beer run and missed the whole thing.

I wouldn't be surprised if that guy didn't contribute to it by sitting right on the apex. Coming up on him fast I doubt I could have avoided lifting a bit, or twitching on the line, and that's all it would have taken.
