I’ve been kicking this around all day and have yet to come up with an answer I’m satisfied with. The greedy bastard, will have enough projects to last until the end of my natural life answer is:
(1) daily driver 914-4 (2) stock 73 2.0L clean and original (3) 914-6 real or conversion, 2.7-3.0L (4) V8 conversion (5) Dedicated track/autocross car I’m sincerely trying to talk myself into keeping it down to three total, but I’m not having much luck. I currently have 5 solid cars and two parts cars. Add that to the other projects, and it’s a total of 15 cars, plus our two daily drivers, or 17 total. I think it’s too much to manage when you consider how much time it realistically takes to build a car. If I sold off a bunch of it, I could have probably kept the 914-6 that I’m just finishing up the restoration on, but it’s already sold. The other option would be to sell out and buy one super nice $30k car, which would put me money ahead in the long run I’m sure. What do you guys think? |

QUOTE(aircooledboy @ Dec 10 2004, 04:42 PM) By the way, I'm at 5 now and always looking. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) Unfortunately, me too. It's an addiction, there really should be a 12 step program, but I guess I'd only be in denial. My list: 1) Dad's Car 70 2.0 4, relatively stock looking, but with minor alterations (sideshifter, elec windows & mirrors, 914-6 struts, brakes, wheels, etc.) 2) Blue Car 72 daily driver, maybe someday to become AX car. 3) Yellow Wide Flared roller car V8 car just waiting to happen (gotta finish the others first, and hope somebody buys it off of me before I get to the actual buying of parts stage. Then there's the Black car that I couldn't say no to when the guy that owed me money made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Too many cars? I think not. Not yet, anyway. QUOTE it’s a total of 15 cars Your neighbors must hate you! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I've got five cars right now and have been seriously been thinking of selling two. They are: (1) nice 81 911SC (2) nice silver 74 914 2.0 (3) good driver condition project white 74 914 2.0 (4) 1994 VW Jetta (daily driver) (5) 1994 Toyota truck (only 70K miles) As much as I want to keep the truck I think I should just sell it and rent a truck whenever I need one. Most of the time it just sits and I'm affraid too much sitting will be bad for it over the long term. And the truck is too uncomfortable to replace the Jetta as a daily driver. Ideally, when I replace the Jetta 4 or 5 years from now I should replace it with a Toyota extra cab truck with air and all the options. I keep intending to do all the TLC that the white 914 needs and then maybe start driving it every day after the rain stops in the spring. Then I think, why do I need two 914s? I could just sell it and drive the silver car and the 911 on nice days. The silver car isn't so nice that I'm affraid to drive it places. I have to keep the Jetta because it's the only car that I have that is comfortable to take on a long trip or up to the snow. It also provides cheap affordable transportation to go to and from work. If we had a protected parking lot at work I'd be more inclined to drive a Porsche to work every day. |

Hey, thanks guys:
Now I feel inadequate. Just one on jack stands that with a fresh 2165 will be back on the road after the holidays. I browse ebay fairly often lookin' for another fairly rust free teener to add to the family, but when I find one that's worth a look, my wife always says "finish what your doin' to Brenda (our '73) - then let's talk about it". I must be "wupped" or gettin' good lovin'. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) 'cause we still just have one. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) But hey, it's yellow - & that's gotta count for something. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

Well I don't know what you are complaining about, there is no such thing as to many 914s. But there is such a thing as not enough 914s.

I can see I’ve come to the wrong place to find a solution to this dilemma; it’s like an alcoholic going to a bar for help. You guys are as deranged as I am.
Actually, I think I enjoy hunting down parts more than anything. Every time I get a car finished I end up selling it and the cycle repeats itself. It’s a sickness I say. The more I think about it, if I had to be practical and drop it down to three cars it would be: 1. 73 914-4 2.0L, very stock and original looking. Maybe a little extra power. 2. 914-6 conversion, aggressive suspension with flared body, street legal track car 3. 914 V8, sleeper, stock looking maybe 911 suspension under stock fenders. How does that sound for a 914 stable? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

914 is not just the model number . . . . .
it is also the recommended number of cars you should own. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) |

If we keep working at this rate, the 914club will have a global monopoly on 914's. We'll drive the prices up and refuse to sell unless the prices go over $30,000 for a drivable 914-4. It can work I tell you. I better start buying a bunch of spare parts before the prices go through the roof!
