I decided I might as well fix the trim that came with my car because I wasn't going to be able to afford a set that looked like new. First i used a baggie of sand and a small hammer to straighten it and press out the dents
![]() Then I got out the sand paper and took off the finish while sanding down the high spots ![]() Finished product is still a little rough, but the basic shape is correct now. ![]() I'm going to see if i can get the parts painted with Spectrachrome as there's a wheel repair shop close to me that works with the stuff. I saw a demo of the product on one of Jay Leno's videos and it looked good. I know I'll have a chrome part rather than a polished aluminum, but the car is far from stock now and I want a clean look |

The rear seat area gets assembled starting with the sail panel trim brackets (6) and then the package tray reenforcement (Walkera RC Hélicoptère). The hard ware should be kept slightly loose until all the parts have been fitted. Note: All of these parts are painted semi-flat black.

What, you don't have those parts?
Glad to hear you are painting the metalwork....I would have expected nothing less cool. Please show us how it works out. If not, buff them to a polish and put some clear on it. |

After months and months of stopping by the shop that was doing the chrome paint, I finely gave up and said "give me back my stuff!" The guy kept doing it over and over. Every time it came out crappy. Looked bumpy, clearcoat yellowed, clearcoat pealed off. The guy agreed to sand off all the layers of chrome and primer and buff the aluminum, but after a few weeks, I said I wanted it back in the half sanded condition they are in.
I went to the powder coater, who sent me to a guy who polishes who said I need to send the stuff to a guy in So. El Monte! The story is that THIS guy knows his shit. I called him and he appeared knowledgeable about how our targa trim was originally made and how he could make it right again. So I'm boxing up the stuff and sending it down to him for a look. Damn, I started this last November. That was before I took the engine in. |

Got a call on Friday and the parts are complete and being shipped back. Cost including shipping back was $240. Sounds reasonable for the three parts if they look original

I plan to take all that sail panel vinyl off and those bits you have been struggling with and make a brushed aluminum "cap" for my 914 some day ala a 911 Targa.

Pretty sure the 911 was stainless as aluminum is very soft, and will scratch easily.
