Am in the process of rebuilding my 914 Type IV race engine
When breaking in a street engine.......I would drive it at various rpm limits for around a 1000 miles........change oil and filter......good to go Rather hard with a race engine How do you guys break in a new race engine?..............don't have an engine dyno at my disposal |

I just went thru this too. Luckily my car is still street registered (but not truly streetable) so I was able to throw a muffler on and drive around the canyons a bit. The usual process, varying revs but not slamming into the limiter at WOT and not cruising steady for long. This was a very limited break-in but it gave me added comfort it wouldn't be DOA when I got to the track. Then, I went to the track! Then, oil change and valve adjustment.
