Looking for a nearby source of very flexible 2 3/8" for the front heater hoses that connect behind the speakers.

Have you checked with VW Parts Unlimited in HB? I think it is the same as VW used on many vehicles and is interchangeble. They would most likely have it. All of the ones I have seen were a paper type hose with foil lining or something along those lines. I would find something similar and replace it with that.

I found a better replacement for the paper tube was the metal tube.

It seems to be readily available at FLAPS for use in hot air induction into the air cleaners of most american cars...

I found 1.5 1.75, 2.0, 2.25, 2.5, and 2.75 all by Gates I think.
