Either I'm looking at the wrong data or that 914 was one of the best cars out of the entire field - beating all the GT3, GT-R, and other high performance cars. The only things seemingly beating it with lower scores are the actual racing cars.

That's right. Ony the XP and Modified class cars were faster. What's the difference between X Prepared and F Prepared (the 914/6 class he was in)? Googled but couldn't find a solid answer. Also is there a term for all those "cars" in the modified class that aren't street cars but pure track/racing cars? |

Dedicated AXers will know the details but I think that FP has specific limitations for each car in the class to equalize their potential, while XP has few restrictions - so people can make more eXtreme mods. A Mod cars are just called A Mod cars. Other Modified classes are for former street cars with some pretty big modifications or road racing formula cars. |

Britain's car is an XP car. It's got a little bit of 914 left to it, but the chassis is mostly tubes, the body is mostly plastic, the engine is turbo Scooby, the trans is a 930 box, and the suspension is custom double-wishbone with pushrod-actuated inboard springs and shocks, based on some parts from out of a Lotus Elise. I think it has to fit a certain displacement-to-weight formula, probably modified because of the turbo.
The Fordahl car (now ex-ex-Fordahl) is a 914-6 conversion. The engine is a 911 engine, the trans is Porsche (not sure if it's 901-based or not), I think that the suspension has pretty much the stock layout, and so on. XP cars can be very high-performance "kit cars". FP cars have to be very modified street cars. .... A-mod cars are oversized go-karts with monster wings and every way that a creative owner can figure to make them go faster and corner better... --DD |
