> Two questions: Driveshafts and switched +12v, before or after engine goes back in?

So I'm getting ready to put my engine and gearbox back in after two years. I remember getting it out was a little tricky due to the driveshafts. Do they need to go back in before the engine?

Question two: Is there any place on the engine bay relay board that's suitable to pull an extra switched +12v out to my new ecu?

Put the drive shafts in after the engine/transmission is in. Not sure about 12v source on board. VW bus and 411 had +12v spare source on altenator harness the 914 does not.

I will strongly disagree .... put the CVs in prior to installation of the engine. To get the CV at the right angle to install into the trailing arm (hub) is difficult with the drive train in place. I use coat hanger wire to pull the CV up and wire it to the springs so they are out of the way installing the tranny (or drive train as it may be)

Just my opinion.

On your relay board, switched power is available from pin 30 on any of the relays, or Pin 12 /14 on the 14 pin main body harness connector or Pin 12 on the 12 pin engine harness.

Shafts in first. Then engine.

Agree to put the driveshafts in before the engine/trans...unless the heat exchangers are removed it's difficult (maybe impossible) to install the driveshafts with the engine/trans bolted in place.

It's not that hard to work the drivetrain in around the axles, so I agree--axles in first. Keep them up about as high as they'll go, and you should be able to slide the motor under them.

On the relay board in the lower left hand corner is a socket with 4 spade type connectors. The one labeled I on the diagram is switched 12v. I use that to switch the main powerthrough an additional relay for my Megasquirt ecu and ancillary electrical equipment. Here is a diagram from Pelican Parts:

Yes I found that one too yesterday after spending some time with the voltmeter and the wiring diagrams. And then one beside it can be used to trigger the fuel pump relay.
