(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/lol2.gif) Nope.. gonna run it like that..... Imagine the cloud of smoke behind my car from all the gear oil it would be slinging........ (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/chairfall.gif)
Actually, the transmission case in the pictures suffered from half shaft trauma. The cv bolts backed out and the half shaft spun around at speed and knocked a hole in the case. I cut the part out for the fork adjustment. That case is now just a fork adjustment jig. You should see the side shift console...... Betty just came in for lunch... She is just that good with photoshop so she made a transparent transmission for me...
She also suggested "transparent aluminum" to fix it (Geek Check)..... I figure I can fix it like Charlie Davis fixed his transmission.... Duct Tape!!!!! |

The photoshop was a joke. The cutaway trans case exists for real. It makes a wonderful shift fork alignment jig. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) But I can't post any more pictures. I took the gearstack out and assembled my transmission. |

Clay,
I'm confused... why do you need an adjustment jig? can't you just align the shift forks with an alignment tool when the stack is pulled out? brant |

Yes, You can align the forks with the alignment tool with the stack out. But can you guarantee that the shift forks are in the right place for the 30+ year old intermediate plate. I have built multiple 901s, and I have almost always had to go back in and readjust the forks so they shift right. Usually, its 4th/5th that is misaligned. The intermediate plate wear causes the rods to get out of position, and the finger on the shift console will slip past the 4th/5th fork without disengaging 4th gear. then you have to pull the stack back out of the car to readjust. Using the cutaway trans case, I can verify that I have the correct alignment on the forks, by installing the shift console and running the trans through all the gears. Now I know it's going to work right the first time........ Oh, and Aaron... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/flipa.gif) I took the pictures free hand. If I had known you wanted to make an animation of them, I would have just taken a movie of it. |
