I have been reviewing the 2005 SCCA Rulebook, fascinating stuff (read sarcastically), and I was wondering what class the 914 is competitive in.
I am familiar with PCA and HSR rules but not so much with SCCA. I ran a few races in a Spec Miata but those rules are simple. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

SCCA - None the rules are a pain
NASA - I love these rules - base class and points for mods. PCA - Any class you can fit into 914s are better than any of them tail-draggers and water pumpers. But I run auto-x I set the car up for PCA stuff where suspension is pretty much a free for all, NASA is close to the same. SCCA I show up for seat time. |

Don't know SCCA. In POC my car is V3 which is heavily modified. There are 914s in nearly every class in POC, but it takes so many more modifications that we are usually not competitive as a front runner. You have to run a 914 because you want to not because you want to win.

You are so right Andy! My 914-6 specs out to V0.... The STS series is the only place there is for a 914 win or place.... |

Steve,
I have looked into SCCA Vintage and it looks pretty good. The best thing about SCCA is that they run a lot of events and they're usually close to home. As for POC, there is not a region near Texas. I have been discussing possibilites of bringing a PBOC chapter to Texas with the founders. BTW Steve, I'll be in town for the 12 Hours of Sebring. Are you guys heading down? |

Ahem....the SCCA can be a pain in the ass, but that's where I like to run.
914-6, 2.0L does okay in EP, but they just increased the choke size from 34 to 38mm, so look out this year 914-4, 2.0L in EP, jury's still out... I'll let you know later in the season, but I think it'll do okay, or else I wouldn't be investing in it 914-4, 1.8L does pretty well in FP... check out this thread Link to Prod website race report from last weekend in CA 914-6 in GT, can be competitive 914-4 in GT, forget about it unless you want to spend a lot of time getting the rules adjusted |

We run with SCCA down here in FL in the vintage class and EP sometimes.
Vintage is more like gentlemans racing. We are all grouped together, from open wheel formula cars to big block GT-1 corvettes. Usually you just find a couple guys you know are close to your time and race with them. I built my car with production class in mind so I can move to EP pretty easily rules wise. I think it depends what you want to do. You can definitely place well regionally in EP but to go to the nationals would be tough. PBOC down here runs by POC rules which would put me in V5 class (race as R7). That means I would race against fully stock 911 SC or 2.5 boxsters. I think we could really do well there but just haven't had time to run with them yet. I'm lucky to get away one weekend a month. |

75 914/6 conversion 3.4 L
PCA: GT3-S POC: R2-S HSR: 3H POC is not kind to 914 's with modifications. I am most competitive in PCA because GT3 goes form 2.8 to 3.4 L HSR is most fun because of the great variety of cars to compete with. Steve |

Hi Stuttgart,
Boy, alot of info, not SCCA. Simple question, complex answer. I am preparing a 1.8 with fuel injection. According to SCCA's 2005 GCR (rule book) I am eligible for G prod. Depending upon primarily the engine and to a lesser degree your mods you would be in E, F or G prod. You can download the production portion of the GCR from SCCA's website. If the orange car in the picture is yours you are probably looking at E prod. Bob Kirby has been very successful there for years with what appears to be a similar car. I just finished the SCCA super school at willow this weekend in a rented car. It was a real blast. Most fun I've had in years racing. If your going to SCCA you will have to go through their school no matter what your experience. Having been to PCA and PRC events as well as SCCA I can tell you there is a world of difference. If you have any questions you can contact me off this list. I've done a ton of research in the last two months and I have a copy of the GCR that sits at my office desk ready to go. I always forget about the 914 in GP...... Sorry about that. I've never had FI on my 914 so I never really considered it for IT or GP.
IT (Improved Touring) is an option, too. The SCCA is shaking up IT in a big way with regards to weights and classing right now. It's hard to say whether a 914 would have a chance at competing in IT. |

Its amazing how many classes a 914 can qualify for.
My friend with a BMW 325 has much fewer choices. Its hard to be competitive in most because the rules have made it tough on these little cars, the're that damn good. |

Heh.....Rich, most all of the other car type BBSs have this "feature".....as I'm sure you're aware. I think it to establish one's bonafides...or sumthin'. I use "2.7L/Webers/NARP"
over on the bird board. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) I feel there is a lack of give a shit about the rest of my resume. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) |

i understand. but frankly, i will be neither more nor less impressed by you or your car based on what kind of shift knob you have... (not "you" specifically. "you" as in "anyone" ...) |
