Replacing another chunk of my car and I'm doing some clean-up of the old seam sealer and undercoating before I start fitting the new metal. Does the backer for the door striker come off? It appears to be a single piece with 4 threaded tubes...and it looks like it may have been held in place by tape until the 4 machine screws were installed at the factory. But the joker is really fused in place. I don't want to pry too hard if it's spot welded.

Not welded, Needs to float so the striker plate can be adjusted. Early ones had a metal tab to retain them, later ones enclosed in a box.

Thanks a lot. It's a 72 so that must be the metal retaining strap I'm seeing.
