Not sure if the one on Andy's car is what we call the 916 style but it is the one I am referring to. My question is 2 part. What is the benefit of the 916 bumper? Surely Porsche designed it to improve performance, no? Secondly, does that bumper improve the air flow thru the grille because of it's shape? Just thinking ahead for this summer since I have installed AC. I might need a little extra air flow. TIA, Kent (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I think Sir Andy has the 916-style bumpers. I have no clue if it improves flow etc, but at least there is a cutout area for a cooler.

Mine are 916 style FG reproduction bumpers. Unfortunately, even the nicer ones are a crappy facsimile of the original.
The original 916 bumpers added more downforce to the front and allowed for a front mounted oil-cooler. The repros suck. All of them. I have never seen any aftermarket ones that were an exact copy of the original. They are all so bad that i firmly believe none of them were actually molded off a original bumper. Buy a used one for $50. See if you like it on the car. There are a lot of used ones floating around. Many were used to replace the front steel bumper after a hit.

I thought you meant it has fitment issues which isn't unusual. Re:air flow; In your case it would be across the oil cooler. For my application; the radiator. Another question. Is your front hood metal or fglass? If metal, do you have any info on the louvered hood? TIA |

Check page 15 of Andy's build thread (top one). Looks like three simple slits in the hood. See the air duct underneath. That's the good part. Bob was playing with the idea of using a Mustang GT500 hood grill. It fit pretty well on the 914 hood. He spent several hours at the Ford dealership measuring it IIRC (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) . Didn't end up needing it for the LS car.

My 914 came with FG 916 bumpers and I can say that the fit of the front bumper is not good. The top of the front bumper sits about 1/4 to 3/8-inch lower than the edge of the front hood.

The biggest issues with the cheap knock off's are the fact that they flatten the face of the bumper really really badly and look horrible. I seen a scoop/ vent on a new camero,..just yesterday,.it looked like it would work fine also,..I wouldn't mind trying to use the style that Mike Bellis used as his side vents,..on the Audi powerd 914,..just less dramatic for hood use...FM

See if you can find the pictures of the reworked steel bumper McMark did with a large cooler opening in the bottom, and a matching valance with a large opening in the top.....really a sharp setup, and functional.
