Was the ignition switch wired such that the warning buzzer would sound if the key was left in the ignition switch. The 911 ignition switches do for sure, how about a 914 ?

Yes. . the 'buzzer' is what looks like a relay on the fuse tray under the dash. . except that this relay is red. . what makes the buzzing is the fact the relay is wired internally so it has a contact in the operate circuit so that as soon as it operated, the contact opens the path and the relay releases. . does this as fast as it can and causes a buzzing chatter.

If you don't like the buzzing, simply remove the relay. .

Isn't the buzzer a rectangular black one ?

OK; Now, what wire goes from the ignition switch to the buzzer ? I'm trying to re-establish the connection(s)

I assume that the connection is a ground type: key-in maintains the ground to the buzzer; key-out breaks the ground connection and ends buzzing. So, I need the wire color code and or connector on the ignition switch it goes to.

got an ohm meter? i'm wondering if the two smaller male connectors are completed when the key is inserted into the cylinder. If I still had all of dad's old FSM's I could tell you right away. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

I had a change to do some testing on a switch that is out of the car. There are 3 large spade tetminals: 30, 50, 15, X; and there are two small spade connectors: P and S

P has continuity with 30 a disused for the parking light function when the TS lever is left on and ignition is off.

S would have continuity with 30 whenever the tip of the key is inserted, continuity was observed in all key positions including off; pull the key ou and it breaks continuity..

I'm still trying to figure out how this circuit might trigger key-in-ignition warning buzzer

Any ideas ? I thinking relay, but not sure how.....

What year?

The buzzer on a 74-76 car is internal to the seatbelt relay interlock box. Have you bypassed this interlock box?

Edit: SH beat me to it!

Would be awfully funny if we can help him get er’ operational based on the schematic and the write up on the interlock relay.

FWIW - I’ve been highly distracted. Was on a massive road trip and now having a septic system installed for the garage. When that’s done I’ll get back to finishing the write up on the relay box and hopefully fixing that in-op one. @JeffBowlsby @Bdstone914 @montreal914

I think it would be cool if it could be easily achieved, if the door buzzer and dash light could be preserved, but the troublesome ignition interlock function could be disabled.

I used this wire to power the "on" for my radio. Radio is on whenever the key is on. On my 75' 914, thought the wire was solid grey? Maybe I can have a look and report back.

Mine is also a 75. I bought a VW buzzer and was going to hook it up, but never got around to it. Future project with all my other future projects.
