I think I found my charging problem. Here's a picture of the bottom of my relay board. I'm told that the big hole and melting on the edges is not normal, and the VR contact spades don't stay up. (What in the world might cause that?) Does anyone have another relay board on the shelf they aren't using?
Thanks |

Thanks I had a similar issue with my board, the pins for the 25amp fuse were a bit cooked and loose. Cleaned out all the old tar cleaned all the strips, used epoxy to fix the loose areas, masked off the opening and used a spray can of liquid tape insulation called Performix (made by Plasti Dip ),had to apply about 6 layers to build and fill the area up.....happy with the result. |

Try removing the voltage regulator off the board and plugging it directly into the rear engine harness. That should let you know if it is the board. The pins for the VR really just allow the regulator to mount on the board.

Thanks George, but I'm not sure I'd plug it in the right spot and another member is sending me an almost new board with all the components on it including another VR. I'll try that and see what happens next. Appreciate your advice though. |

This thread got me thinking is there a diy rebuild thread out there for these? Not a really hard job Ben just very time consuming, the tar (pitch ) takes for ever to remove and you have to be carefull not to dislodge the contact strips,if this happens you can clear epoxy them back down. Funny I remember my new GF ''said can I help ''and scrapped the majority of the tar out for me,she was sat down wearing a rather short dress......enough to say it didn't get finished that sunny afternoon....... So what really needs to be rebuilt on them? Just resolder connections etc? |
