Yes. Call an expert. If the gouge is not too deep, it can be polished out. Buy the time you buy all the tools and get past the learning curve, you could have hired the expert.

I have a low RPM kit that's $65, if you wanted to give it a shot you may be able to at least make them much less visible

Windshields yes.
Side glass not too sure.
I've got a kit and I've got a lot of patience.
No dice. At least for me.

Replace it. Over time, it does get sand blasted. Especially highway miles behind trucks.

Scratches in a windshield can be removed.
Small craters caused by highway sandblasting are different and I'm not too sure it's possible to remove them . They're more like small holes.
I'v got a kit that has two grades of rare earth, special polishing "cloth" like material
a 4" polishing head and other stuff too.
I worked on tinted side glass for hours. 0 results
Windshield glass and side glass are different types.

Replacement is the only answer. You can not repair sandblasted windshield. I wasted money and time trying.

This will continue to grow as laws keep forcing manufacturers to make glass "softer".

The windshield is laminated glass 2 thin layers. It is not tempered. The side glass is tempered. And I have used the kit to reduce the scratches on a temped glass railing system. this is the main reason I carry it.

If you have to do it, you can cover the glass with a thin layer of epoxy and then polish it.
It's the same idea as the small damage windshield kit repairs.

If you think about it, the process would be very similar to the headlight repair for the newer plastic housings. They add a "protective coating"

Probably not the best option for the windshield, but kind of the idea.

I polished out a scratch in my canopy once. That small 2" area distorted the view when looking thru it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

For what you can buy one for, it may not be worth the effort.

I agree with the "replace it" comments for scratched glass. I did a bunch of internet research on glass scratch removal. I thought there would be lots of people successfully doing this like the plastic headlight restoration. What I found was that for a huge effort, you get crappy results.
