Taking apart a 76 steering column for my project and found this brass steering shaft bushing. Is this some ones attempt to replace the plastic bushing? or was this available as a replacement part sometime in the past?

I've never seen one, either on a car or for sale in a catalog/on a website. I'd guess home made repair.

Looks like a really nice home made solution.
