Do the old Hirschmann radio antennas as installed by the dealerships have the same plugs as modern antennas?
I am having my 1974 dealer installed one removed and the hole repaired and was thinking of going with something like this hidden one. Just curious if I will need adapters or something so I don't get it apart and then spend days trying to figure out what I need to put it back together. Thanks! http://www.jegs.com/i/Retro+Sound/700/HPA-...wZj8aAu6P8P8HAQ Attached image(s) |

TM -
I don't know if that one is any good reception-wise, but it's not too expensive. That said, Woody's Customs here in Orange County CA has been selling to SoCal Porsche owners for years, & is usually at the big Porsche Swap Meet 1st weekend in March the Sunday after Saturday Porsche Lit Meet in LA (not sure if they had a booth this year, as I didn't make the P-Swap). So check out their hidden antennas, as well as the adapters he sells to allow you to use a plug-in Aux/USB CD/MP3 player, BT, etc., as well as the flat/square speakers which you can put under or behind your seats for 4 speakers without holing the door panels. They also sell modern retro look radios, if you want to go that route. http://woodyscustomshop.com/online-store/ http://stores.ebay.com/Woodys-Custom-Shop As another thought - if you can't use paper maps or your smartphone's often wrong mapping - then Porsche is selling their Radio/Nav unit for the classic Porsches like our 914s, but it is pricey, but it's a Porsche part - waddaya expect! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Tom /////// Thank you Tom. I definitly would like to keep the "original" 8 track in it (installed 3 days after original purchase) and don't care about anything modern like GPS or CD so I will check out Woody's antennas. I mainly wanted to make sure the antenna interfaces from then and now were the same. Meaning a new antenna will just plug and play into my 1974 8 track. Thanks! cs |

Curious?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) why do some teeters have the antenna mouthed on the drivers side and others on the passenger side. My 74 1.8 is on the passenger side. Thanks.

The Hershman antenna plugged straight into my Walmart radio with no problem I think most radios were dealer installed so the antenna could be left or right

Bubba turned the mounting plate diagram over. It ended up on the passenger fender. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
