Hi Guys,
I am faced with needing to fix up/replace the top dash pad. Will a dash cover (around $100-130) suffice? Or is it a better idea just to save that money and apply it towards the new pad ($550)? Thanks as always for the advice, Ross |

Ross,
IMHO it depends upon your needs & taste, & overall condition & value of your 914. If it's a very nice high value concours or pleasure car, then get the Stoddard's or other repro dash top to last another 20 or so years, but keep the car or dash covered to lessen the heat/sun effects on your nice new dash. Same if you're spending bucks for a resto on it now - do it right. If it's just an average or lower condition fu n car or DD, then the glue-on/adhesive pads hard plastic dash cap will work okay, but a cracked dash doesn't hurt functionality, so you could perhaps use the money instead for something which does affect function. PS - Stoddard may be getting theirs from 914Rubber noted above, so check both out, & if same one, same price, then pick best shipping to your location - 914Rubber is in OR, & Stoddard is in OH - so UPS on a large package like that can be a few bucks different - & you can buy on overall total price with tax & shipping to you. I don't know if Stoddard gets theirs from 914rubber but they charge $900 (that's a lot!) vs $550. And 914rubber makes a top quality product- I have one for one of my cars, So...Ross, if you are planning on keeping your car for a while, go for the 914rubber dash pad. It's worth the money. If you just don't want to look at a cracked dash, buy the better quality (thicker) plastic) dash topper. It can usually go on without glue. Some time in the sun will let it mold to the dash and look pretty decent if not a bit shiny.
PS - mark's (914rubber) shipping is super reasonable Yes, I'm a fan just as he is a big fan of our cars and goes out of his way to support them and the guys who own them. |

I need a new one and almost bought a cap but I think the cost for 914rubber's is pretty decent, so when I get to the interior I'll buy the new one. Just my 2 pieces of copper.

Hi Mark,
"buy the better quality (thicker) plastic dash topper" There are a lot of dash caps out there. Do you know one that is better? Thanks and hope you are doing well, Ross |

I have bought three caps and I have been pleased. The one with the grain, (I forget which manufacturer) is the one you want. I've seen some that look like coarse sandpaper and they aren't right.
americandashcaps was the seller. [Keep in mind that a cap is a short term solution to a cracked dash. I always highly recommend 914 Rubber products, and I will buy one of his dashes as soon as my /6 project is farther along.] |

I have a 1965 356SC and a 1991 996 in my stable so, it made sense to add a 914. Well, the wife bought into the idea so, I went for it. Have ordered a few bits and pieces from 914Rubber and they seem to know their stuff and have some great parts. I like Stoddard but, these guys seem to be giving them a run for their money on the 914 front. Good job Mark!
