Just wanted to update this posting - The 914 (along with a 78 Beetle) were found at a salvage yard and someone was arrested and charged. The titles had also been stolen and forged so the salvage yard presumably thought they were buying from the owner.

Unfortunately, there were 8 other cars stolen that have not yet turned up. This car is now back in the possession of the estate. I don't know what they plan to do with yet.

Thanks for keeping your eyes open.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know this is a long shot but I am trying to help a friend find a black 1971 914 (Vin #4712906567) that was stolen on Febuary 10, 2017 from W 47th st in Cleveland, OH. It was stolen along with a few other cars. According to neighbors the cars were hauled away by a tow truck but of course no one knows the name of the towing company.

Police have been unable to turn up any meaningful info. At this point it is more important to find out who did it rather than actually finding the car, however finding the car would be a bonus.

I don't know what the condition of the car was or any other details or pics. I searched the forum's database but the car is not registered on 914world.

If you know or see/hear anything please PM me.

Thanks. Bud

Bummer! Very sorry to hear about that!

Doesn't that thief know, if you're gonna tow a 914, use a flat-bed! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ar15.gif)

Awful news. Sorry to hear.

Pics of the car or even a complete description of the car (wheels? bumpers? distinctive mods or damage?) would go a long, long way. After this many years, no (or very few) two 914s look truly alike.

Also watch your local craigslist for any special parts that came with the car

Not good; post any pics of the car. Wheels, condition may jog someone's eyes if they stumble across it.

I thought I posted a reply but I guess it didn't go through. My friend is handling the estate of his brother, who was the owner. Both the owner and his dog were murdered in the home around the end of October but weren't found until the end of December. My friend was in the process of moving a dozen or so cars into storage when a few if them were stolen. He doesn't have pics or any further info. I wish he had more but that's all there is.

Sad all around and I know it's a very long shot, but keep your eyes open.

There was a black one for sale without keys or title in one of the 914 facebook Groups. Sounded suspicious but I cant find the add now, maybe someone else saw it too?

The post was deleted but he was a suspicious guy, came out of Las Vegas. Car didn't have keys or a title. Grey/black, looked like it wasn't painted yet. Didn't know the engine size and wouldn't provide any further information or pictures.

The car thefts happened well after the murders so likely it was different actors but then again you never know.

bump - to keep it active. Someone mentioned a car for sale on Facebook without a title and little info but I did an extensive search again today but didn't turn up anything.

maybe we should have a list on the site that lists the vin's of any reported stolen car, just in case a member ran across a car for sale that seemed a little odd.

No. But there have been a few similar incidents which is why the FBI is supposedly investigating.

How could he have had the original titles to the cars if he wasn't part of the initial robbery and murder?
