visited the bodyshop today...
didn't take too many pics cause the battery of my camera died on me (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif)
I'll have to go back next week and shoot some more

Not too visible in these shots is the new inner half longitudinal that's welded in (driver side)
(you can see some of it in pic 4 & 5)

Sadly, I don't think the welder understood the concept of the stampings in the driver side inner rear fender (mounting positions for the oil tank - pic 1)
The PO made some crappy repairs there so I got a replacement panel (thanks again Larry / Spare-time-toys)
But he still welded some additional metal over it...
I don't think the /6 oil tank will fit this way
I'll have to talk to him about that (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/unsure.gif)

I'm very happy with the other repairs (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/boldblue.gif)

jeroen, My cousion and her better half are coming over to Boston tomorrow for a week and a half..is there anything I could get for you with the great exchange rate right now for you and have them bring it back over?

I work at a Porsche dealership, and my cuz lives in Amsterdam...actually, my mom's sides of the family is all over there..she was born and raised in Rotterdam. I can't keep track of all the cousins..they either live in Amsterdam or Norweijk (sp?)...in the north where Heinekin's house is..you know the one with the green roof. Anyway...just thought I'd mention it

Eric, thanks for the offer...
Due to the crappy vacation, the 914 parts budget is kinda limited right now (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif)
I live about 30 min. south east of Rotterdam (I was born there too)

Geoff, Jacco doesn't have to worry about the Seattle weather now
I broughts some nice hot weather with me when I returned from Cyprus (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)

I am trying to pay for both the 914 and the Westy repairs right now. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif)

weather is certainly gud these days, had a nice BBQ last night (first of the dutch season for me)

I'll have a look for parts I need, I'm actually looking for some stainless heat exchangers, but those wouldn't really fit cary on I guess (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif)

I'm going to enjoy the sun, hope you do the same Jeroen!

Ok, so I went back to day with a fully loaded battery (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif)

First 2 pics show the outer half of the drivers side longitudinal removed
As you can see, the support plate underneath the doorjamb/windshield frame in the middle of the long has been replicated

Pic 3 shows the replacement piece for the outer long half, about ready to be welded in

Pic 4 shows the new inner half of the long
the cut-out for the handbrake won't be there anymore
planning for a handbrake handle on the center tunnel

5th pic shows a new "Y" piece from the inner long to the bottom of the firewall on the pass side
Also some of the DAPO crappy repairs (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/barf.gif)
(will be fixed later)

6th pic shows the same part on the drivers side

last pic shows the sawzall part from Larry welded in to place
also the bottom corner at the firewall has been patched (looks funny in the pic, but it's done nicely)

So looking at the first batch it looks like the guy welded patches on the backside of what I sent you (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif) It looks good in there though. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/clap.gif)

yep, that's what he did...
dunno why either (haven't talked to him about it, he wasn't there when I was)
the tank ain't gonna fit like this, that's for sure (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif)

I'm not quite sure if I'm gonna use my stock /6 tank or go for a front mounted tank, but I wanna keep my options open

JP, if I go for the stock /6 tank, I'll keep you up on your offer!
