Well, this is one of those moments that you watch unfold and can't believe it.
Apparently someone stole one our our Q400s and went for a joyride before crashing it. Hopefully there are not injuries on the ground. there is a golf course in that area. |

Looks like a very quick $30M twin turboprop Bombardier that someone with limited flying skills got in , and got it airborne . FAA not going to be happy with this one...hopefully no other casualties besides the one we know of .

I've looped them in the sim and they will fly upside down, I guess the sim is pretty accurate. Just one of those nights that you know the morning will bring some real changes at the day job.

Crazy! It crashed about 10 miles from our house. Two F15s were scrambled from McCord Air Force base and chased it until it crashed. SeaTac is a super busy airport how did he get it off the tarmac?

Something else at high risk of being hijacked lately at airports; Homeland Sec vehicles. My service tech (works for a big vehicle tracking Co.) says that they have contracts all over the USA , putting tracking devices on these cars+trucks. In other words: bad guys rolling around in stolen HS vehicles get into secure areas and are usually never stopped by regular law enforcement.

The F15s were scrambled from PDX, it's less than 10 min subsonic. Listening to the tapes, it sounds like the guy was pretty disturbed. Actually really sad. |

Like jack, I'm miles away from chambers bay. The chase aircraft must have gone super sonic at some point. Heard what started as a rumble, then loud and rolling. then the house sort of shook, then dead quiet. As the rumble grew louder I thought it was an earthquake then it just stopped. Weird, there was no 'breaking news' regarding the situation.

They tried to talk him down. He apparently wanted a 30M dollar plus suicide. Expect required physicals with psych exams for ground crews.
I’d bet since that was the last plane you were rated for before you went jet, you’ve probably flown that particular one Mark... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

He said he’s played a lot of video games. I wonder how real they’ve gotten. Or do you have a SIM on site at SEATAC Mark?

Ketron island is unpopulated, mostly vacation type homes. This could have been much worse. They'll have to cut the plane up and haul it off island on a ferry (small one services the island) or with helos. Listening to ATC conversations right now. The guy sounds like he's on a sightseeing flight. "WOW, the fuel level went down real quick!".

Not one mention about whether the guy died or not. I'll presume he's dead as the trees look like a big mower went thru them and the plane burned up. "I'm sorry about this, hope it didn't ruin your day". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) too little, too late.
Then the news and all of the speculation about this and that. Enough. Move on. |

FWIW. The guy died. CNN online headline. No surprise. Only 29 yo. Troubled young man. Tragic.

Thank God this suicidal guy crashed without taking any innocent lives with him. I hope that plane is insured and new security measures are considered to prevent such occurrences in the future. Sad event all around really. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I believe thgat was the ducks plane. And yes many hours in that one. Hard to imagine, but al.ost seems so bizarre its not real. Seems like no one else was injured so yes if he intended ill it could have been much worse. |
