I picked up a couple of new (to me) arms to install muellers front bearings, hubs and new volvo calipers.got everything installed went to put the torshon bars in and they dont fit. It seems the arms are 911 which makes for a big problem. the bearing races are locktighted on as per instructions and I dont know how easy they will come off. is there a easy remedy for this problem with out taking everything apart?

yep..get some 914 torsion bars! Should be plenty around in here from people who have put 911 front ends on. Anybody have any extra 911 torsion bars?
But, first thing to clarify for us is what a-arms do you have? 911 and 914 will look the same from the outside but they take different splines on the torsion bars. So, do you know for sure what a-arms you have? |

the easiest would be to find a set of stock 911 torsion bars (and the rear adjusting cap) , I would think you could find a set dirt cheap or even free since there should be no real market for them...........
what loctite?? heat will loosen them up....... |

sorry..didn't read your thread slow enough...if you know you already have 911 a-arms then 914 torsion bars will not fit (nor the end adjuster caps). You need 911 ones for that. I do have a pair of 911 torsion bars off of a 71 911 but no end caps......However, we really need to know what a-arms you have.

Easiest solution would be to get some 911 torsion bars and end caps and slide them in.

Bernie;
The 914 t-bars have 29 splines and 911 have 31 (I think.) I was fortunate enough to inherit some 22mm 914 bars from a 911 guy who had bought the wrong ones. Just installed them the other day. Sweet ride now! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) The spline count is just close enough that some people have forced them on, totally dicking up their bars and a-arms. You were lucky (and smart) enough to catch it before getting to that point. |
