Well it has been interesting to say the least and also a great learning process, but
after many months and engineering this conversation project car; the engine was installed TODAY and is getting ready to FIRE UP soon !!! Check out my photos and comments or questions are welcome. For any of you that have been following my Progress Thread "Project 914-LT1 Canadian V8 conversion" you will know that I decided to take some risks and be a trail blazer ! If interested in more details or photos check out the original thread. I am running a late model Chevy 350 engine (with some modifications) and coupled to a 1997 Boxster five speed transmission. There have been many changes along the road but hopefully it will be road worthy in a few weeks (awaiting a special starter setup and a few additional parts). It should be intersting to drive with a very slick "Cable Shifter" from the Boxster along with a modified 914 Cable clutch set-up for the added feel and control rather than a hydraulic unit. Must call it a night but just wanted to share some or my new found excitement ! Photos attached and to follow. Allan Toronto, Canada Attached image(s) ![]() |

Looks nice Allan! Did you powdercoat the red pieces? Simpson w/p? I wonder why Renegade mounts theirs on the other side... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif)

Greetings Felix:
The red is actually Chevy Orange engine paint, not powder coated; maybe later when I decide to taske apart again and do a detailed conversion, for right now this is to be a daily (summer) driver and just a fun sports car with some real performance. It is a "modified Simpson W/P with a machined coolant fitting bolted to the rear of the WP/P in order to get Better water flow and less restrictions. Will keep posting as progress develops. Allan |

The engine compartment on Betty's 74 is painted with rattle can Chevy orange. It matches the real paint Phoenix Red on the outside of the car. |

Allan,
In your second pic, is that another small radiator? Oil cooler? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/blink.gif) =-) Wow what an intake. note the Vortec valve covers but no casting markes on the heads. What kind of heads are those? Inquiring minds want to know. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) Cable clutch and shifter. Badass...... |

Roger:
The story is the intake is a GM Peformance manifold designed for the newer LT1 engine, all I did was details the Chev Emblem in orange paint. The cylinder heads are original LT1 alumium heads which were ported and polished to provide better flow. (By the way They are not Vortex heads) There is a dual mounteed remote Oil Filters and the Oil Cooler has a high powered thermostatic controller fan to help keep the engine oil cooler. I got a great deal on Oil cooler and thus decided every little bit helps when running a"mid-engine V8" in attempting to reduce operating temperatures (even in Toronto are where it hits 90 - 100 deg. F during the summer months). Anyway glad you all like the progress so far and looking forward to firing up the baby in a few weeks after I get my custom machines, balanced and hardened flywheel back from the shop to install. Until next time happy motoring ! Allan |

Greetings Mark;
Yes it should be ready for "THE SHOW" driveable at least and possibly quick !! The bodywork and detail to the exterior will follow next winter along with some more modifications. The plan is for a friend to drive "914-Twin Four" and I'll drive along the 72 Super Beetle; that's if I can "follow" him to get to Elizabethville, otherwise I'll be on my own. Looking forward to your show and would like to help out with some of the organization stuff, but have a special event I am handling at Ontario Place with a youth group, several bands and a major drama stage production; so my time and schedule on Aug 20th will be tight after 4PM. We can talk later if you might need so assistance. Your friend Allan |
