Yep remember....you needed a gas sipping car in the 70's...The 1973 oil crisis began in October 1973 I remember well. I bought a '73 1.7 in July '73 that recorded a high of 35 mpg on a 500 mile run. Then the gas crisis and 55 mph hit in Oct and I could no longer drive legally in 5th gear. Got a ticket from the CHP for doing 70 on the open road. When I pointed out that I couldn't get max mpg unless I was in 5th, he said "yeah, but you were pulling along that Caddy behind you."
