Are the following two steering racks interchangeable -

914.347.014.00
914.347.014.01

I have a nicely rebuilt .00 rack (see pics) that I would like to install in my '74 2.0L.
Research says the .00 is a rack from 70-72. Can I use it in my '74? Thanks.

I'm under the impression that all 914 racks and even many 911 racks interchange.

Thanks Mepstein, I suspected that was the case.

The racks are interchangeable, IIRC the 2 mounting bolts are not. One rack uses short bolts, the other longer.

The inevitable fly in the ointment. Damn! Anyone know the bolt specs for a 914.347.014.00 rack?

65 to 68 911 racks are also interchangable. They have a quicker ratio.

All 914 and 911 racks are interchangeable but there are differences. Look the the height of the bosses for the mounting holes. There are two heights. Kind of built in bump steer.

As a re builder of these racks I can attest that all are interchangeable except the early 912 ones.
In fact we get 914 racks sent in that are 911 racks all the time. The big problem is that there are 6 major variations and even more internal differences in bearings retainers, and drag pucks as well as the outer guide bushings that there are 3 major variations. The castings are machined to each of these. This is one of the reasons we can't just sell a kit to rebuild.

Interested to learn more about the racks with faster ratios. Worth swapping for a dedicated autocross car? How different is the ratio?

It is a 10mm bolt . Measure the depth of the hole or do a test fit with the bolt to be sure it do, not sure if the grade 8.8 or 10.9. The lenght is about 25mm. The bolt takes a split loch washer and account for the rack thickness of about 5mm. You want maximum thread engagement.

65 to 68 ratio: 1:16.5 with 2.8 turns stop to stop

69 to 73 911: 1:17.78 with 3.1 turns stop to stop
