I purchased a few NOS 914-6 shift rods (firewall to trans) years ago from Porsche. I never thought too much about them until about a month or so ago when a member needed one. He found one closer to home, so end of story.

Just a couple days ago another 6 owner hit me up for a shift rod for a real 6. I gave him the part number and said "yes, I think I've got what you need". He wrote me back and said "that's for a Sportomatic".

Fortunately I've got a single known 6 shift rod, and sure enough they have the same ends, the exact same bends, but the Sporto part is 25mm longer at the tail end.

My guess is the Sporto transmission is 25 mm longer than the stock 901.

What's your best guess?

Maybe Glenn or the good Dr will chime in. I don't have a clue.

I’ve never seen a 914-6 sporto shift rod.
I did just see a picture of a 914 sportomatic transmission
And the end is the same as a 5 speed..
So I stand corrected.....
I can see how the 2 shift rods can be tough to differentiate
because the length difference is quite small...

I re-measured the two; side by side, using a bolt through the coupling yoke, and the Sporto part is 24 mm, not 25. The two are identical except for the extra length.

I took a picture of the coupling
