My '74 1.8 starts and runs fine for a while. Then it begins to buck or cut out. At firsy it is very intermittant, but becomes more frequent as it is driven until it becomes a neck-snapping experience. The car is all original and fuel injected. I am not a mechanic, so responses must be basic. Non of the local mechanics that have looked at the car seem to have a clue. I am in central Ohio - suggestions for knowlegeable repair shops would be welcome. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) HELP

Check all of the wires that attach to the coil.
Clean all the terminals. Make certain that the wire's are tight and not arcing. If U can, watch it idle in the dark. Look for arcing. All of your wires are 30+ years old. If there anything like mine, the insulation has become brittle and cracked. Replace them. Good Luck (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) |

Just had this on my 1.8L
Change the head temp sender. Mine even tested good, but that fixed it ~$30 |

Also. look at the wire from the fuseblock, to the coil, related to the safety belt interlock.. cut that wire.
