I think I am going to get a CD iginition system.

There is a bunch to choose from, some require other parts to be changed out like tach adapters, coils and rotors.

MSD
You need to buy RPM rev limit pills, heard that you need a HD rotor and a tach adapter. I have heard the tach adapters aren't a 100% guarantee. Which model is good for a stock engine?

Mallory
Do no nuthin' about these

Crane
I hear that you don't need a tach adapter, adjustable rev limit, but maybe a coil? Which one HI-6, HI-6s?

Any others?

I'd really like one that is pretty much a drop in and go, but also will work if I ever put another engine in the car, 6cyl, 8cyl etc.

MSD has been flawless for me. 6AL. The pills are not that expensive. People have said you can make your own, but I think that's goofy, since they are about $5 each and work without having to wonder. ( or spend hours making a set )

Easy install. Around $250.

It was in my car when you rode along at WCC.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) Will it make that cool 6cyl sound though

I'll need a tach adapter, another rotor (I heard they fry easily) - what about a coil?

I'm using a Bosch Blue coil and stock rotor. Also Pertronix...

no tach adapter here. Limiter tickles right on cue. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif)

Fires off every time on cold carbs.

KT

it will make the cool SIX sound also, with one other mod...

CDI = capacitive discharge ignition.....

i have a mallory 6a (no rev limiter) but havent finished wiring for it, because of the tachometer issue...

you need to take apart your gauge and make a jumper.....

i had 2 MSD 6's - one A, one AL, fail. one experienced random total loss of secondary that would eventually clear. one just woke up dead one evening. no more for me. opened the boxes and it appeared to be an ancient analog-based design.

so - i went with Crane for a variety of reasons. never looked back.

715-0020 optical trigger \
700-2231 installation kit / not needed if you retain points
HI-6 CDI
LX-92 pulse transformer ("coil") -- LX-91 and other CDI "coils" OK too.

USE GOOD WIRES! i use Magnecor.
USE ONLY GENUINE BOSCH CAPS AND ROTORS!

i got all the Crane stuff from Summit.
including the programmable retard kit i haven't wired in yet.

switch-programmable rev-limiter. tach-calibration (rev lite) modes.
