i have made a couple of improvements to the drivetrain in the last week (clutch tube repair and rennshift) and now in the morning, when the car is cold, the clutch shudders when moving from a stop. i have to keep the rpms 3k+ and gently release to keep the shudder down. after about 10 minutes of driving, all is back to normal.
1) so, do i need to adjust the clutch cable now that the tube doesn't move? 2) am i going to have to relearn how to shift my car? 3) do i have something coating the clutch plate that takes a while to burn off each morning? (don't want it to be this one!) 4) all of the above? 5) throw it away and get a hyundai? thanks for the input...... |

crap!!!! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif) ok, i presume there are a number of places where the oil could be coming from but what are the most likely culprits? i do have a small leak at my oil pump that i have never gotten around to fixing but i doubt that would be the problem area. any input on where to look, what to look for and how much $ and how long to fix would be appreciated. looks like i may be parking for the season a little earlier than i had planned. got a feeling this could turn into one of those "while i'm in here, i may as well......." things. |

The most likely place for your leak (if that's what wrong) is the rear seal. See if you've got oil drippage at the bellhousing/motor joint. If it's not to bad, you can live with it until it's more convenient to fix. I've had cars with this problem last for years before it got real serious. The "backyard fix" is to drive along about 50 in 5th and floor it.....put enough pressure on the clutch to let it slip a bit (careful not to overrev). This can burn off the excess oil enough to give you a couple weeks relief. Do this too much and you'll likely need your flywheel resurfaced when you get around to tearing it down. DISCLAIMER.....this is definitely a "hack" temporary fix and assumes your clutch's days are numbered already. Try it once anyway to verify the cause of your problem.
Good luck |

Also make sure all is well with clutch adjustment, motor mounts, CV's, axle bearings etc before assuming it's an oily disc..

i had adjusted the clutch about a year ago. will have another whack at that and maybe go ahead and put my new clutch cable in just for shits and giggles..... and look for leaks while i am under there.
then..... see if i really have a problem.... thanks for the input folks.... i really want to make it to ECC and this would put a damper on that if a big problem..... |
